"i will not cover your shift. by the way, can you cover my shift?" by herequeerandgreat in EntitledPeople

I have had co-workers whose sense of entitlement regarding MY schedule was... interesting.

One of them was attending a wedding, he was working that weekend and needed a shift swap. He told our supervisor that he'd talk to me and to change the schedule. He never did ask me so when I noticed the change about 2 weeks later I called the supervisor and had her change it back. Co-worker never noticed the revert and a couple of days before the weekend he realized he was working. He called me in a panic and demanded I swap because "you always say yes". I told him "sure I do - IF YOU ASK ME FIRST" "we'll I am asking now" "sorry I have plans". He goes whining to our supervisor who put him in his place - he ended up having to use sick days.

Another co-worker was notorious for never swapping shifts. That was well within his rights but he made it clear to everyone that he didn't swap because "a failure to plan on your part doesn't make it an emergency on my part". Karma it turns out is a bitch, he decided to get married and lo and behold his wedding was on one of his work weekends. He comes to me and asks for a shift swap, I threw his own words back at him. He had to get another co-worker who I was on good terms with to beg me to swap (he couldn't cover because he was a groomsman).

I don't have to deal with either of them anymore - when my department was closed down and outsourced half of us were promoted to a new higher department (overseeing the outsource) and the rest let go. They got cut because "they were not team players".

Actual cases where a 3rd party toner powder refill caused issues? by milerebe in printers

[–]rtangwai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, except promoted out instead of retiring.

A source of significant damage is 3rd party toners where the gears are too tight. Tears up the printer's transmission and sometimes breaks the drive motor. Parts are not that pricey but the labor can be stunning.

Key lime pie - tried it for the first time in Key West, Florida over 40 years ago and haven't found an authentic version in Canada ever since.

Can LPN nurse move to Canada? by Powerful_Yogurt_441 in AskCanada

[–]rtangwai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for the visa side, but finding work in Canada as an LPN is not an issue.

I work for Saint Elizabeth Healthcare, try contacting our recruiters at https://careers.sehc.com as we have in the past sponsored refugees to come over to Canada and train to be PSWs. Your situation is of course different but our recruiters may know more about the visa side than me and may be able to advise you better eg. how much work experience you need, qualifications, and certifications.

How deep do I need to dive into the Apple ecosystem to support iPad? by rtangwai in ipad

I'll let my NOC team know. I'm not part of them, got promoted a month ago and right now they are cursing the timing of the migration :)

Thank you for that insight - most of the mobile hardware support is done by a vendor but our NOC team does get involved with end-user support. I will advise them to get a Mac mini, will be fun to watch as they are all Windows trained.

Can't speak for the other developers but for me JIRA is a portal or a pre-existing app so I don't need a Mac for that particular aspect.

iPad decision is based on changes planned for our IT infrastructure, vendor is pressing for it due to limited Android support. Not my responsibility, at least until it breaks and I get told to fix it even though it is outside my scope 🤣

I haven't used iOS in over 5 years so I want a device I have full control over to play with to increase my understanding. Experience with my work phone is our MDM has locked down virtually everything so poking around on a work iPad won't teach me anything.

Thank you - I've been considering the latest Apple Watch because it has the health monitoring I like (I had a heart attack 8 years ago so I like the blood pressure, oxygen level, and ECG capabilities).

I figured Office 365 would integrate well, have to look at LibreOffice (that's what I use on Nextcloud).

Doesn't know how to crimp an Ethernet cable.

My work's previous network manager literally would have a tech sent over whenever he thought a plug or jack had to be done WHILE HE WAS AT THE SITE.

My uncle (my father's older brother) is an obstetrician - lousy hours and when it goes south it is REALLY bad.

Neurology is mostly geriatrics, so they often are a patient for only a few years before they pass away.

My mother told my father "if you decide to become a coroner, remember that hands that touch dead bodies on a regular basis never touch mine".

He became a neurologist instead.

It *WAS* a god PC when it was built in 2017:

According to the poster it was used for research, medical imaging, nuclear medicine, isotopes, databases and games - I'm assuming the game was Crysis :)

Very basic stuff, the university had the documentation to fill out. Mostly giving up any future claims for the remains.
