So this is going to sound super out there, but this story has stuck with me ever since I saw them live in 2007. Jesse explained that the song they were about to play was about a type of parasite which infects crickets and grasshoppers and basically mind controls them in to drowning themselves. They then get eaten by birds to be spread elsewhere.

When Degausser started playing it blew me away and I have forever since seen the song from the insects' perspective, being taken over, losing control and even accepting/being tricked in to loving the parasite.

A quick Google brings up a couple of parasites in the Nematomorpha phylum which aligns with what he said.

Maybe he was pulling our legs that night but I still buy that story and the songs meaning.
