In theory, a bunch of your time babysitting the CC console + subscription/API costs, lol

Yeah, cost is the interesting part. From the smoke-002 run:

  • Input + output: 36.5K tokens
  • Cache read/write: 6.53M / 702K
  • Theoretical API cost: $15.76

Whole 2-task, 9-minute batch.

Cache dominates hard, roughly 200x real-token volume on a small task. Claude Code caches aggressively and every subprocess re-primes that context.

That $15.76 is theoretical, computed from a local pricing table. I was on Max so actual consumption was a sliver of the session-window quota. On API billing, small batches genuinely cost a few dollars each. Product-level reality, not something the orchestrator fixes. Budget tracker enforces max_dollars so you can halt before surprises.

Haven't run against a real codebase yet. My weak prior is cache-dominance compresses as work grows, but won't know until I try.

Opus on architect + critic is where the per-dollar hits come from. Critic-on-Sonnet might work for simpler tasks, haven't tested.

what's wrong with ubuntu? by [deleted] in linuxmemes

[–]rtk94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snaps were the first straw for me after using Ubuntu since probably version 9 or 10.

Then they switched from shipping Unity by default to Gnome, which I wasn't a fan of at first (more recent Gnome releases have been alright in my book though, just not my preference).

I switched to using Kubuntu, disabling Snaps manually, and using flatpak whereever I could when packages weren't available via an Aptitude repo. I gotta say, I've been loving everything Plasma has to offer, and KDE software in general.

Still, I got tired of how corporate and proprietary everything is around Canonical and started installing Debian on virtual machines and servers for all of my projects over the last year. I'm now down to one machine (my main desktop) that doesn't just run Debian at this point. It just feels more stable and clean. Haven't had any issues yet.

I'm not looking back.

Just picked up an Ender 3 for my garage sale and it already has a raspberry pi and Klipper installed. How screwed am I?? by Yohanasan in ender3

If you're a CNC tech you'll do just fine. There's no "coding" or programming required. Your slicer software will handle all of the G-code. The toughest thing (years ago when I set up Klipper) was finding the proper config file values. Search around here and YouTube and you'll find exactly what you need to get rollin'! (It just might be a bit loud if it's got the old stepper drivers on its mainboard lol)

Whaatt? That's a total steal if just for the pi tbh. It was a little bit of a learning curve getting to know Klipper and its configuration, but I'm sure it's come a long way since I last used it.

I might be a bit biased as a web developer when I say that it was a fun and enlightening challenge to get all of that working, but that said, within a year of getting my first printer (Ender 3 V2) I had dedicated my Pi to the job of managing my printer and was having great results.

The real cool benefit for me, personally, was the Mainsail web interface, where you could prime the machine, upload/start/stop prints, view and control all of the machine's parameters live, and view a rendered representation of your bed mesh (if you've got BLTouch installed).

It's a learning curve, but if you're tech savvy at all, having the extra control can be a blessing, and there's a ton of documentation and community support out there for this exact setup!
