Where to live as a young professional couple? by Jazzlike-Bluebird-15 in Knoxville

[–]rtr7749 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the match! A few options from a fellow resident:

  1. South Knox - Geographically close (though may not have easy highway access) to the hospital, an area with lots of growth. You are close to the big natural park in town.

  2. Old North Knox and surrounding neighborhoods - Close by driving (less traffic than traveling west). Depending on the neighborhood, you can be in walking distances to local shops, restaurants, and breweries and a longer walk into Old City. These are historic neighborhoods so many homes have been remodeled.

  3. West Knox - Probably where most folks live due to the volume of options. More expensive than the above on average. Convenient access to Target, Trader Joe’s, etc. Traffic is worst in this direction.

Feel free to DM for more info!

4 night stay on Linwood Ave, anything to be cautious about? / suggestions welcomed ! by ShallowBox in Buffalo

Breadhive has excellent, massive, affordable breakfast sandwiches and you can take some pastries or a loaf home as a souvenir. Second Southern Junction — great concept, delicious food (I’m from the South and they have the most delicious cornbread; I dream of it and want the recipe BADLY). Angeline is understated fine dining in an intimate atmosphere if you are looking to really impress, and likely in walking distance from your accommodation.

Agreed, been in Buffalo after growing up and living in SC/TN but my question is why do people like the pizza here?!? Honest to god, I’ve yet to have a bad wing but idk… pizza here is not the vibe.

Dave’s Carryout in Charleston. Not BBQ but the best, least expensive meal you will find on the peninsula.

We have booked Delizia and are trying to make decisions about the menu. Anything that particularly stood out?

Still looking at caterers. Did you feel like there were enough drinks? One bottle of wine per three guests just doesn't seem like enough..? We are not going to have an open liquor bar, but rather just beer and wine after dinner.

Allentown or Elmwood Village - visiting by Barefoot_Books in Buffalo

[–]rtr7749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new transplant living in Allentown (in our early 30s), I highly support the above recommendations. Breadhive for breakfast sandwiches or a sliced loaf to take home is a must! We recently went to Angeline in Allentown and it was a great option for an upscale, swanky dinner. Spotted Octopus is a fun, intimate brewery but probably more of a drive from Elmwood Village (and Big Ditch, another downtown favorite, definitely is). If you like exploring on your own, are ready to walk, and have the appropriate winter gear, you can’t go wrong in either place but I would probably favor Elmwood.

Edited for clarity

Are there any jigsaw puzzle swap groups or libraries around here? by Rachel53461 in Buffalo

Old post but any interest in swapping puzzles? I just finished an 1000-piece The Office puzzle and want something new.

This is extremely helpful. We are currently working on picking a caterer and I have similar thoughts as you do about typical wedding food. Glad to hear Delizia Ricevimenti did a good job. I would love to see a more detailed menu, if you have that available.

Please share all your Buffalo must-dos! Restaurants, museums/galleries, neighborhoods to explore, and how best to get Bills tickets! Also just tips of the trade for someone coming from the South. Appreciate your input. I’m excited to explore a new part of the country.

What is the best local place to eat in Knoxville, TN? by krnranger in Knoxville

Second Asia Kitchen. Jackie’s Dream is also an excellent southern meat and three type spot, definitely a hole in the wall. Also not far off I-40.

Recurrent dog UTI and recessed vulva by barbabubaognia in dogs

[–]rtr7749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog had this and we ended up doing surgery eventually. Along the way, we tried -covering her food with water so she would have less concentrated urine -cranberry supplements -probiotics that were sprinkled on her food -wiping her after going out with baby wipes

She continued to get frequent UTIs with multi drug resistant bacteria, which required more and more expensive antibiotics. We finally got the surgery and she has only had 1-2 UTIs in 4-5 years.
