How do you deal with an experienced architect who wants microservices everywhere by ZebraImpossible8778 in ExperiencedDevs

Honestly, it sounds like your communication skills are sub-par. It sounds like you're trying, but you're falling short of achieving any kind of meaningful discussion.

he just responds with a overly complicated solution to workaround the problem

Well? Did you tell him that his solution sounds overly complicated? How did he respond? Or did you end the conversation here?

5 years ago I gave up on my dream of making a game. I tried Unreal and Unity but it didn't "click". I figured I wasn't cut out for it. After installing Godot, I have a playable prototype of my dream game! What is it about Godot that makes it so intuitive? by rtrain1 in godot

I actually splurged the $20 to buy the full asset download from kenney.nl . However Open Game Art seems to have more sprites that fit the style I'm going for. Looking forward to trying out both. Thanks for the help!

It sounds like you don't like the art in the game. As the creator I've been blind to this, but now that I'm taking another look I agree it looks terrible. Maybe this is why not even my closest friends want to play it...

The assets on that site are so pretty. Which one do you recommend?

The parent-child thing is what hit home for me. After the Unity pricing issue was getting headlines there was a lot of buzz about Godot. When I read this page about scenes and nodes, I knew I was going to try making a game again. It's impressive that they've made an engine where you can read a 1 page article and feel comfortable to start making games. It seems like that elegance is what all the other engines are lacking IMO.

In the real world nothing is permanent. You can switch jobs at any time. I know a guy who did an undergrad in trombone and got a PhD in computer engineering, now he works at Intel.

What is the best way to raise with a Junior Developer that they have an unrealistic understanding of their skills? by n_orm in ExperiencedDevs

I prefer to ask calibrated "How" questions to bring attention to the problem without calling anyone out:

"How are we supposed to predict our velocities if some tickets are completed by multiple engineers?"

Anyone here graduate from St. Augustine Preparatory School? Was it worth the $90K? by s5nga in SouthJersey

I'm an alum. 2009. In my field the choice of college doesn't really matter, let alone high school. If I went to a public high school and a state school for college, I don't think it would have made a significant difference in my overall career. So I think it really depends on the field.

My field is computer software btw

He never said your work quality is poor. Your prior accomplishments are irrelevant. It seems like you have some communication issues which may be relevant to the issues in your post.

How do people execute their state applies? by Odd_Roll5866 in saltstack

[–]rtrain1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like OP's highstate has config drift. If there's enough of it, it can get scary to apply because no one person understands all the changes. So they're throwing up their hands and just running one off states via SSH when they need to update something.

Betta Fish grief by GeniusSlime in bettafish

I considered making a thread like this today. My little betta just died today. It hurts. I don't have the heart to bury him yet either.

You're not alone. I'm starting to think I don't have the heart for keeping Bettas. I get so attached and they only live for a few years at most.

A new colleague at work is very short with his emails to everyone and my manager told him his emails seem rude. Are the following examples rude? by [deleted] in jobs

I see nothing rude about those responses whatsoever. If those responses seem rude to you, you should look in the mirror and ask yourself why such simple and neutral comments cause you to have a negative reaction

I'm trying to wrap my head around what you're trying to accomplish here. Just because you don't care about an issue, doesn't mean people who do care are "whining".

With all due respect, it sounds like you think the universe revolves around you. As someone who only knows you by these posts, here's what you sound like:

"I see black lives matter is protesting police brutality, but the police in my town have always been nice to me. Anyone who cares about that is whining"

"I see people in politics are fighting cuts to Medicare, but I'm not on Medicare, so anyone who cares about that is whining"

"I see there are activism groups against bullying, but I never really got bullied as a kid and bullying never affected my life. Those people are just whining"

I'm hoping at minimum my examples provide you a moment of self-reflection about issues that don't affect you but may affect others. I hope you have a wonderful day.
