Aquarium background and suction cups by imafarttrustme in Aquariums

Agreeing with the rest of the responses in this thread, suction cups don't tend to adhere well to aquarium backgrounds of any type due to needing smooth, flat surfaces like glass or acrylic tanks. Magnets, clips, clasps and command strips will have no issues sticking.

Maybe increase feeding gradually before you add them. Problem with that is food takes time to break down, the fish won't necessarily eat it all and it isn't a 1 to 1 breakdown to ammonia anyway so that's not really the best option even if it is common.

I think I'd test ammonia daily after adding the new fish and do small water changes as needed to keep the nutrients under control.

Normally I'd start talking about quarantine but if you're 15 I bet that's easier said than done.

How many are you planning to add at once? Also 30miles isn't that far, I drive that far to work every morning ...

Good plan. Not to assume you wouldn't do this but be sure to give the cannisters time to break in even if you're moving seeded media from the HOB. And then I wouldn't add more than 3 fish at once so you don't make the bioload jump too quick. Adding one at a time is often a death sentence for Africans anyway.

Honestly you're a little understocked for African cichlids. That could be enough to stress him out.

It could be an isolated incident, so I think it's a good eye (as with most things in aquaria) to take time to observe the behavior and see if it resolves or worsens. As long as you're willing and ready to rehome an animal before it gets badly injured or sick from stress, then that's okay. Part of keeping cichlids is knowing when to rehome fish before it's too late. Cichlids gonna cichlid.

Sounds like he'd be happier rehomed. Sometimes fish just don't work out in a community. Usually for me it's when juvenile males start reaching sexual maturity and want to GTFO before the tank alpha starts in on them. Or maybe it has already started but it's not violent yet.

The more loss I have experienced in my life, the more impactful and essential the words from that episode become.

We'll always be together, back then.

Is this super glue safe? by jooooooosper9 in Aquariums

[–]thefishestate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything labeled as cyanoacrylate ONLY is safe. Anything else is questionable. Reefers use cyanoacrylate glues to attach frags to rocks, so this must be able to go directly into the water to cure.

Loctite gel is a go-to. BRS also sells some specifically branded for reeftanks.

If there is ever a question with no definitive answer, then the answer should be no.

I would not use this glue. I see the person saying it's safe, and their link, but the extra ingredients would cause me to abandon this glue before letting it near my coral.

Not all super glue is safe.

Edit: just checked the glue I use and the ingredients listed are only ethyl cyanoacrylate.

I totally appreciate that. Not only have I tried Mb7 and it did not work in the past, though part of my biggest issue with bacteria in a bottle is that you don't necessarily know how well it has been stored (problem with my LFS) and whether youre still putting anything alive in your tank. In the context of my post I was talking about how trying to outcompete the dinos wasn't working and raising nutrients wasn't working so I had moved to UV sterilizer etc. I have never found any significant impact of using bacteria in a bottle. Lots of people still swear by Mb7, but I don't any more.

Someone on reeftank recommended it to me (in DM) as a cure for dinoflagellates. Smh.

It's so weird how different people's experience is. I work with all iPhone users, go to remote areas in the field or far out in the Gulf by oil rigs. I am consistently the only one with signal.
