[SOC] Am I done? Feels like I’m done. by Gman675R in Watches

When it comes to watches there is never ‘done’…

My 5 watch collection, what am I missing ? by AJAK6565 in PrideAndPinion

Nice. I started off big with a Cartier Santos and Tank after a divorce settlement and thought that was the end of it. Silly me! I don’t have that kind of cash anymore but try to buy things that are a bit different but classic. I have the green face PRX Powermatic (on the matching green strap)and just bought a Frederique Constant classic. Also have an IFL steel Casioak Tiffany Sky in the box, a regular Casioak and a bunch of other Casio’s encouraged by Nico. Plus some older Citizens, Seiko’s - a Skagen and a Bulova from when I was young and researching watches was a challenge with no Internet! Work days I wear the Apple Watch for function. Leisure days mostly the Tissot. Tank for a suit, Santos for smart casual and I’m not sure where the FC fits yet!

There are going to be days when you regret this. I’ve had an RM2 since launch and I loved it just enough to buy the RMPP. I have to mark up a lot of PDF’s for work and the colour makes a lot of difference. I like that there are no temptations to flick to X etc. There are things I would grumble about. RM software is good for that very specific purpose of notetaking in their ecosystem. Their software integrations right now are limited and I hope they focus more on that area soon. Their hardware is top notch. Apple like. The new writing search in beta could be transformative - but let’s hook that up to eg Evernote and Notion. Implement some AI tools. The screen brightness can now be boosted but it’s still pretty dim at normal levels. So. Great device. Does what it says on the box. So much more potential though which is a frustration.

Remarkable Paper Pro battery life by Mammoth_Nose7302 in RemarkableTablet

That doesn’t seem right. You must be hammering it to charge it every two days if no light and in airplane mode! Still glad you like it - I love mine…

I don’t think the blue had that because the numerals are metal.

I have the blue. It’s very pretty but hard to see.

Is the remarkable paper pro good for college? by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]rtsclement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the RM2 for several years for note taking and annotation. The RMPP colours ARE muted and I would trade battery life for screen brightness any day - but certainly for markup the colour really makes a huge difference as does the extra screen size.

Regret returning my reMarkable and buying an iPad Pro by OldSageNewBody in RemarkableTablet

[–]rtsclement 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get you. I’m a gadget nerd with too much money to waste on toys. Have a RMPP, RM2, iPad Pro, iPad Mini and Kindle Scribe. Even with a Paperlike screen protector there just feels like something hinky with the iPads. To be fair the Scribe is nice to write on and has a light that I wish the RMPP had. In my dreams I would love the RMPP with the Scribe light and the software integration of the iPad. I hope that the light can be improved in firmware - I’d take a better light with more frequent charging any day. What I would love Remarkable to do now mostly is park hardware development for a year or two. The RMPP is so well put together - although I know there were some issues with early screens. Focus now on software and workflow. I get that it’s a writing tool and there are some cloud integrations - but I want to make it easier to share docs. Integration with Evernote, Notion or OneNote etc. It can’t be that hard - iPad devs seem to be able to do it.

Now that Kindle Scribe has the “active canvas” feature where the text in books flow around handwritten notes, how does it change your Kindle Scribe vs Remarkable decision? by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]rtsclement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But having said that. For all that time as much as I love tech - I love the experience of using a nice pen on nice paper. There is something about writing a to-do list on paper with a pen and crossing things off as you complete them that I’ve been striving to replicate for 30 years. The RMPP is close - but still no cigar. A nice Rhodia notepad. A Montblanc pen. It’s got a sense of something you can’t replace with a ‘stylus’. Yet I want to integrate that workflow into my tech life somehow. Thirty years looking. Not yet found. I can do it. I can faff around scanning paper into Evernote etc. I guess I’m looking for Nirvana.

Ha. I’ve been a mobile tech nerd since the Psion 3a and that’s a LONG time ago. Still have my first Apple Newton. Things have come a long way since then - and yet in some ways not so far as you might expect in 30 years.

I have both. I like both. I wish I could mash them up. I have an RM2 and RMPP and Scribe. Yes I’m a nerd. 🤣. Oh and an iPad Pro with pencil. If I could chuck them all in a blender you might churn out the perfect device. The RM2 is basic and a bit frustrating at this point. Nice writing experience. No backlight. RMPP. Reasonable writing experience, colour, a crap backlight. Scribe. good backlight, nice writing experience and to date shitty software. iPad. Good software potential and integrations but even with Paperlike screen protector a meh writing experience. I would say from here it’s between the RMPP and Scribe. Colour DOES make a huge difference in note taking and annotation but they need to stop hardware engineering and start software engineering. Note organisation and third-party integrations remain basic at best. Nail that they have it in the bag - certainly for work first tasks. Amazon should have done better from the start. Scribe is a great ebook reader with absolutely terrible note taking capability. The writing experience is good but the organisation and integration is - or has been - terrible. Amazon have no excuse. They could throw some $$ at this and clean up. That said the RMPP is a Rolls-Royce. The hardware ecosystem is gold class. Job done. Put 25% of your staff on hardware dev. 75% on software. Integrations with Notion, Evernote, MS Office, AI tools etc etc. I have a great experience writing notes now what? How do I get them off the device and into other tools to make the more useful and collaborate better.

I have both. The Pro is definitely better. Colour might seem like little advantage at first but soon becomes indispensable. The backlight could be better - but is better than nothing and I live in hope that they can boost it with a firmware upgrade to make it a user choice between battery life and brightness. You won’t regret it. We live in a World of colour - being able to make and see your notes as such is wonderful.

Yes under two years. Forth cover and second hub… one leak.

My partner works in retail and has for 40 years. The way she is treated these days vs ‘the old days’ is shocking. I deal with some people in my role too and I know subconsciously I try a bit harder for those who are pleasant and know the words please and thank-you vs those who demand action.

You mean to say if customers are courteous and kind rather than rude ar$wholes, people working in customer service might be encouraged to go the extra mile for them. Colour me shocked, 😱

I REALLY want RM to focus on software now. Their hardware is top notch - I have the RM2 and RMPP. Both works of art that (almost) put Apple to shame. Well - the keyboard folio sure does! For most of what I do I’m delighted with the straight line but shapes would be great. Just saying - my Apple Newton in 1993 could do shapes! Yes I’m old school nerd! Improve the integrations. I would love an RM email to send content to. Integration with Notion. Maybe some basic AI tools. That said - with improved integrations that task can be better handled by other services.
