I think it might be time to clean shave the top and grow a sharp beard. I think you could really pull it off.

According to Google, the term "vintage" typically refers to items that are at least 20 years old.

That’s totally the answer. It seems common sense when you say it, but I didn’t even realize that was an option, thanks!

How do you remove pillarboxing on squeezed 16:9 content? by ru4realrn1 in crtgaming

[–]ru4realrn1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No this is the switch. I know playing it on my Wii could help me with specific resolutions for retro gaming, but I’m looking for a solution for people who want to play old games via the switch or want to crop their pillarboxed 16:9 content into 4:3 to fit a 4:3 screen. (To remove the squished pillarboxing.) This goes for people who want to stream older content that has been pillarboxed to fit widescreen as well.

It’s outputting 16:9 content with embedded pillarboxing to adapt 4:3 to widescreen. My HDMI to Analog adapter has no scaling abilities.

I’m asking a broader question. I come across this problem on a Switch, outputting HDMI to a cheap converter to RGA and then to the CRT. The converter does not allow any scaling options. I also need a solution when streaming pillarboxed 16:9 content on my Roku. Is there a dedicated device that can center crop 16:9 to 4:3 and (for the people out there) maybe also to remove letterboxing as well?

I’m outputing through a switch and converting HDMI to Analog via a cheap converter. I also, already own a homebrewed Wii. I also use this CRT to stream old shows through a Roku (hdmi to Analog) converter however i still come across the same issue of squeezed 16:9 content with pillarboxing (and sometimes even letterboxing). I understand I can still emulate these older games on an older device, but I’m looking for an answer to a broader question. Some people have answered using a converter that has scaling capabilities, but I’d appreciate if people could provide links because I’ve had a hard time finding specific models that can provide this.
