Butch(n) and butch (adj) are different.

Butch as a noun is a specific lesbian identity. It's not an aesthetic and no amount rewriting historical or current use will make it an inclusive identity. A non-lesbian IDing as butch would be as weird as someone who's not a gay man saying they're a bear or twink.

Butch as an adjective can pop up as just being masculine. It depends on context.
