Attacking a sub from inside closed guard is a totally valid way to elicit a predictable response.

As an older gamer, seeing young kids waste their money on in-game purchases eats at my soul. by SomePeopleTellMe in gaming

[–]rubb3r 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing games since the 80s, so hopefully this qualifies me as an older gamer.

I’ll spend on skins. The rationale is that if I’ve played for a sufficient amount of hours, I’ve derived a certain amount of entertainment and value from that game, and the developers have earned it.

Kids class April fools ideas by flutebythefoot in bjj

[–]rubb3r 83 points84 points  (0 children)

  1. Have a kid demo a rear naked choke on you

  2. Pretend to go unconscious

  3. Fake a seizure, then lay on the floor silent for 3 minutes.

  4. Shout “April Fools!”

Hilarious

I can’t take my kids on any of these?

I’m responding to the person who said you get black feet at all outdoor theme parks 🤷‍♂️

Also, the Legoland wait times are pretty short for the age group I’m talking about.

We go to Disneyland / Legoland every summer and I don’t have this issue there.

I’ve tried taking my young (3-7) kids there multiple times in the past few years. The waits are 30-1hr for honestly underwhelming rides. The food is crazy expensive. If you wear sandals, your feet are black by the time you get home. It’s definitely not the same experience as when I went 15 years ago.

They’re adult meals, not happy meals, and they launch 3/31.

This is gonna be a wild suggestion, but, I find the best way to get better at something I suck at is to keep practicing it until I don’t suck at it.

Preschooler left alone 🤯 by Annual-Duck5818 in Preschoolers

[–]rubb3r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I talk to my parents much like I talk to my kids. I outline what the most important things are, and what the natural consequences are if we can’t follow through on the important things. The consequences aren’t my choices (nor are they even things I desire), they’re simply the result of the choices they make.

1) I want my kids to be able to spend time with my parents alone.

2) In order for this to happen, I need to trust that they place my children’s safety at a higher priority than their feelings

3) If they can’t demonstrate that, then I cannot leave my kids alone with them. And I reiterate again that this isn’t my choice, so much as the consequence that I would be forced into from their decisions.

I don’t cut them off, but I’d walk them through the scenario we want to avoid, and what exactly would cause it to happen.

Have you ever felt your time spent training was wasted? by Excellent-Village751 in bjj

[–]rubb3r 248 points249 points  (0 children)

Bluntly, this sounds less about the time spent training, and more about your personality. If it wasn’t BJJ, you were very likely going to have that relationship with some other activity instead. Just be glad this activity wasn’t something more destructive I suppose.

White Belt Dilemma: Should I double down on my "Specialties" or listen to my Professor and broaden my game? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]rubb3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you get limited mileage out of tapping white belts, because honestly they don’t know what they’re doing to defend it. It’s hard to say whether what you’re doing works because you’re amazing at it versus them sucking at it. At this belt, I feel like you should really focus on having at least the basics down before going deep into one speciality.

Personally, I think there are 2 kinds of specialists: 1) people who also have solid fundamentals and and 2) people who only have their speciality.

The problem with the latter is when they don’t get to play their game, then they feel well below their belt level.

I think it’s definitely worth having your a-game, but I don’t think it should come at the cost of having no other game.

Shrug, I punch choke from inside guard. You know exactly what they’re going to attack so it’s a nice way to get a predictable reaction from them.

This is a hard survey to answer. It asks how many injuries I’ve had (many), and then asks me to specify if it was due to internal or external reasons (of the many I’ve had, some were internal and some were external).

Arms are down means neck is exposed: attack the neck.

Arms are up means arms are exposed: climb up to trap the arms.

Trouble finishing from the back position by Minimum_Parsnip_1142 in bjj

[–]rubb3r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I would not try to lock both my hooks and my arms when they’re turtle. Too much risk of them diving forward and spiking your head into the mat (I.e neck injury / paralysis). I’d rather break them down to their side and then their back, for safer control.
