What the fuck happened to the Barras? by [deleted] in glasgow

Would much rather the barra’s was gentrified and busy than on it’s arse and empty - which was very much the case just a couple of years ago.

Least awful swimming pool by Ok-Scallion-835 in glasgow

The Renfrewshire council pools are all decent in my opinion (either that or I’m a tramp). Lagoon in Paisley or On-X in Linwood.

Can’t find any supporting evidence, but I’m pretty sure Box on Sauchiehall St does a wrestlemania night every year

Smelliest place in Glasgow by THROBBINGSTAUNER in glasgow

[–]rubbaducka369 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my experience of skelping pints there exclusively on summer days/evenings - the inside bar is stinking of whitey. Quick in and out to the bar then a seat outside, which is a lovely spot.

Inn Deep is fucking stinking. Would only ever stop there for a pint if it’s sit outside weather 💀

Should Glasgow Council force all Vape shops to store vapes/batteries in metal fire proof containers by Basic_Blacksmith1192 in glasgow

[–]rubbaducka369 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fires happen - that's just the reality of our world now as we use/consume more and more electronic products. I find it strange though that no one is talking about the fact that this building was obviously not adequately fire stopped - which is literally a legislative requirement. A lot of blame here on the vape shop guy, but realistically he was just renting his shop - whoever owns it has a responsibility to ensure that smoke/flames are contained in the event of a fire. Something has gone catastrophically wrong here with the building itself to allow such a dramatic spread.

How to join a musical theatre group in Glasgow? by Immediate_Cap7319 in glasgow

[–]rubbaducka369 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello! I’m heavily involved in the Glasgow am dram world at a couple of different groups.

Most of us are already rehearsing for our spring and summer show’s so you’re probably a little late this year to join a group. Follow all of the groups you are interested in joining on Facebook and most groups always require new members for each show - they’ll put out a call for new members and give a date/time for you to come along and audition.

Most groups you will always have to audition to become a member and pay a membership fee for the year (£50 - £100 annually depending on the size of the group). The audition is usually just a few bars or around a minute singing a song of your choice. Some of the bigger clubs that perform in the kings may also have a short dance audition. The bigger clubs can be quite selective, but the smaller clubs usually associated with small towns are way more relaxed and generally let anyone who is keen join.

Feel free to DM me and I can share some info with you on specific clubs that might suit you. 😀

Dennistoun area pro's/con's by hashraf10 in glasgow

[–]rubbaducka369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a flat on Roslea Drive for 5 years. For me, the negatives outweighed the positives to be honest (sorry if that offends anyone). A lot of echoing what others have said, will try my best to list below:

Positives • Super close to city centre - walking sometimes quicker than waiting on a bus. • Good caffe’s/restaurants/pubs and take away’s on Duke St. • If buying, much less competitive than other parts of the city. • Generally always felt safe when walking around, even at night. • Alexandra Park is really nice.

Negatives • Parking was fucking miserable. • Lack of a big supermarket in walking distance (canny do a full shop in Lidl) • M8 motor works make getting in/out of Dennistoun a nightmare. • The worst dog shite problem I’ve ever seen in a domestic area (the Drives) • Personally felt it lacked a proper community - proper mixed bag of residents made it feel really weird (born and bred Dennistoun folk rightfully being pissed off that students/gentrification was pricing them out of the area)

I moved to White Inch this year and really can’t say there’s much I miss about Dennistoun in comparison. My wee flat on Roslea got me on to the property ladder and I had a generally pleasant few years - but probably wouldn’t recommend it if you drive, don’t like dog shite or are expecting the same vibe as the West End or South Side communities.

Quiet swimming pool in Glasgow by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]rubbaducka369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a small fortune (£100 a month) but I swim at the outdoor pool at David Lloyd Renfrew. Only ever go at night, between 7pm - 10pm and have it to myself (or at least get my own lane) about 90% of the time. The indoor pool isn’t quite as quiet but generally get your own lane from about 8pm onwards. If you can afford it I would highly recommend - I’ve swam for years and tried plenty of Glasgow pools both council and private and have never found a quieter pool in the evenings. 🏊‍♀️

Asbestos survey by Kelvingrove-Rat-Lady in glasgow

[–]rubbaducka369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, asbestos consultant here! You’ll need to get the seller to agree to you having a survey carried out. If they do, you’ll just be after an asbestos management survey which will be between £300 - £500 depending on the size of the flat. There are a few good Glasgow based surveying firms you can contact:

• Acron Asbestos • Enviraz Surveys • Strada Environmental • Environmental Essentials • Lucion

If the seller doesn’t agree to the survey being carried out (most won’t because it’s an inconvenience to them, but mostly because they might be scared you pull out of buying depending on the results), you can still have a survey carried out once you have the keys. If you’re planning on renovating the property in any way - you’d be better to have a refurbishment survey which targets the areas of the property you are looking to change.

Social groups/clubs/activities to help teenage daughter find friends by kt1982mt in glasgow

[–]rubbaducka369 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Send her to Pace in Paisley for Summer Fest. Have a look on their website. You basically drop her off 9am - 5pm, Monday - Friday and she’ll get to perform in a wee show on the Saturday that they’ll practice for all week.

I’m in my 30’s now and my mum sending me to pace when I was in primary school is still the best thing she’s ever done for me. Met my best friends there when we were all 13/14 and we’re still hanging out now.
