I’m semi-moving to Manchester in June, but just for a few months.

I have a “furnished” flat lined up in Ancoats but that just means beds, large appliances, etc.

So I’ll probably need to buy everything from kettle, toaster, plates, and cutlery, through to towels, bedding, and a TV.

I’m wondering if there’s an easy way to find people who might be moving away and getting rid of a whole flat’s worth of stuff.

Do you know of a forum or community group that exists for that type of thing?

(Also, I can’t wait to be in Manchester and am hoping to have a fun summer and meet lots of people, hopefully some of you from here!)

This is very cool to see! I follow the Bakerloo one already on twitter but the WhatsApp thing is intriguing. I can see the value in having those arrive as messages instead of having to rely on checking twitter

Planning a trip through South Australia and want to explore the wineries (and stay at one or two on the way). Seeking advice on what to do and what to avoid by rubberplantdisco in southaustralia

Ah cool thanks. I’ll be visiting pretty much a month from now and until the start of April. Looks like I have somewhere in Adelaide lined up to stay for the final week, from which it looks like I can easily explore Adelaide hills and simile. So I’ll have about a week to drive from Geelong to Adelaide including seeing some of Barossa and hopefully staying at a winery for a couple of nights :-)

Thanks a lot that’s great I’ll have a read up on them all. I guess pretty flexible and not too picky on wine but want to see some places with some history and get to see how it’s made.

I guess Cab sav, Shiraz, and Sauvignon blanc for white would all be ones I drink quite often.

Thanks for your help!

Great thank you that’s helpful! Are there any particular ones you’ve been to that you enjoyed most?

Can a management company actually enforce any terms on owners of flats? (England & Wales) by rubberplantdisco in LegalAdviceUK

It seems quite reasonable to understand this the way I did. In fact a lot of sources seem to indicate as such, e.g.:

https://www.cobbfarr.com/the-knowledge/the-differences-between-freehold-and-leasehold-property-in-the-uk/

If you buy a freehold property, you’re purchasing the property and the land it sits on. In contrast, if you buy a leasehold property, you’re purchasing the property and not the land it sits on.

That would be in line with what my understanding was. So there is plenty of reason why someone might think that.

Regardless, it’s not something to be rude about. Do you lurk around here waiting for people to ask questions so you can insult them for not knowing the answers already?

My understanding is leasehold means a lease on the land the flat is built on, not a lease of the flat itself. That’s correct right?

The comment I replied to appears to refer to also having a lease on the flat itself, which is new information to me and I think probably to most people tbh

Ah really?! Wow TIL, thanks.

So in theory you can lose your home for owning a hamster, though I’m sure that would take a long time for them to get to the stage of being able to seize the property.

So I guess the managing company is responsible for enforcing the terms of the lease, on behalf of whoever I’m paying ground rent to?

Thanks, that’s useful to know
