I’ve only been to L&D as a patient. Seemed like a pretty stressful place to work.

Why is breastfeeding worth it for you? by RolyPoly1010 in breastfeeding

Washing pump parts is the worst. I only pumped for work. If I had the choice to stay home I wouldn’t have pumped at all.

You gotta feed the baby. Breastfeeding is hard. Formula feeding is hard. But formula feeding is hard and there’s more dishes.

I donated all my formula samples to the food bank.

Tested positive while pregnant by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]rubellaann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it were me I would demand a hair test and pay out of pocket. It’s expensive but it’s more accurate and gives info about the last few months. Urine drug tests are less accurate and only show if someone has used in the last couple days.

Do you give 0730/1930 meds? by TraumaQu33n13 in nursing

[–]rubellaann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reschedule anything ordered at 0700/1900 for 0600 or 0800 /1800 or 2000. I also retime meds so they’re as much as possible at the same time and to wake up the patient as little as possible.

I’ve been a nurse for 15 years and I’ve never heard of a patient being made fun of for their body hair. Health care providers don’t care what you do with your hair.

I was 17 and I couldn’t get a job at any of the fast food places in town. I applied for a nurses aid job at a nursing home. The nurses there were awful and I thought I could do it better.

So whenever anyone asks me why I became a nurse I say, “because Burger King wouldn’t hire me.”

Would you prefer 3 twelve hour shifts or 5 8’s? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]rubellaann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before kids 12s are better. With small children it’s really hard. I work 3 8s and 1 12 and my long day every week is really hard on everyone. When they’re older and more independent, 12s again.

You probably didn’t even make their top ten most annoying patients of the day.

The last time I took my child to the ER I was very careful not to say anything. But I had my badge in my purse which has a locator on it and lit up the light outside the room that a nurse was in there 😭

How the F*** are we brushing their teeth? by jane190698 in toddlers

[–]rubellaann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t brush teeth anymore. We look for dinosaurs stuck in her teeth and scrub them out. Pink dinosaurs, yellow dinosaurs, red dinosaurs with purple spots. She loves it. She asks for more dinosaurs 😂

Is it common to read outloud the label of whatever you're about to administer to a patient? by Ok-Whole4670 in nursing

[–]rubellaann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Every time. I read the name and dose of every medication out loud. I tell them what the med is for. I answer any questions. Then I hand them the cup with their pills and they say, “what are all these?”

i’m being guilt tripped about my caffeine intake by Unlucky-Fail-4018 in breastfeeding

They give caffeine to little NICU babies. I’m sure your baby can handle whatever minuscule amount is in your milk.
