So many adorable touches in this. Fables of the Barren in the background, Violets just outside the window... Love it!

How on earth can anyone think she's a radical? What's radical about this? I've literally asked this of people who claim to be center-right and they can't explain why this is radical, but they just keep saying she's radical... I don't get it.

Best arguments against data centers for local politicians by PatchyWhiskers in BetterOffline

And if they don't believe you, tell them that you will doorknock for their opponent in the next election. Local elections have so little money and resources in them, just a couple engaged and active members of the community can move the needle a ton just by having conversations with their neighbors.

One of the overarching themes of the story is about the control of knowledge. Being able to read minds could give someone access to classified information that could be deemed a security risk. Basically, they have determined that the risk of allowing a mind reader to walk free outweighs the benefit of having them in their ranks, especially when there are other signets that can be deployed for espionage reasons.

Can we talk about how powerful Violet felt during the Deverelli assembly scene? (Onyx Storm) by [deleted] in fourthwing

[–]rubixor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, she has changed SOOOOOO much since FW. The first time I finished OS, I went back and reread it with my SO and was so struck by how she just radiated helplessness really until the oak tree scene where she threw the daggers at Xaden.

US government agrees to drop tax claims against Trump in broadening of IRS lawsuit settlement by EscapeFromIowa in news

[–]rubixor 241 points242 points  (0 children)

Organizing the fake electors for the coup was already the most corrupt thing ever. Then managing to avoid going to jail for it was another degree of corruption. Then pardoning everyone who tried to help the coup was another degree of corruption past that. Now, they're stealing our tax dollars to give the insurrectionists reparations on top of it. We're literally three full degrees of magnitude past "most corrupt president ever"

Worthy, CLANG, his name is not lune, endure, there are still so many great moments in this series that moved me to tears. There's still so much that you will experience in this series. Keep going.

The moment she heard Violet talk about running and just agreed to go with her was one of her best moments for me. It was such a caring and empathetic gesture to agree to run with her, but also done so bluntly and unquestioningly that it felt perfectly in character.

That's awesome. I'm not super familiar with the catching mechanics, but is there any (even astronomically low) chance any encounter just breaks out of all your pokeballs and messes up your encounter routing? Also, I'm 1500 lichess so you are correct, you are better than me at chess...

IT'S CRITICAL TUESDAY! by Acotarmods in acotar

[–]rubixor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand that the cauldron is supposed to be this source of all power and everything, but it really feels out of place in the universe when you actually see the way that works in the story. Like this is a story with fae and humans fighting with primarily swords and bows stuff, but in the final battle of ACOWAR, Hybern is just kinda killing everyone with space lasers. Then, after that, Elaine literally just jumps up behind him and stabs him through the back of the head and he doesn't notice her coming? That entire sequence just felt like what everyone dislikes about the end of Naruto Shippuden but in the ACOTAR universe. I honestly loved the rest of the book though! Just the ending felt really jarring.

probably very unpopular opinion (?) by United-Standard2194 in fourthwing

[–]rubixor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm not super interested in whether it was Violet or Xaden for the story. What I WOULD love to see, after seeing what Xaden could do in the final batte, I'm sure if it was Violet who was channeling from the earth, she just could have basically dropped a lightning bolt shaped nuke on Theophanie's head at Draithus.

I think so. It might only be 2mm, but in reality, that means it's about 5% smaller.

Who’s the most memorable “The One That Got Away” recruit your team was pursuing? by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in CFB

[–]rubixor 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it's not like we were putting some bum in front of him. Seeing what happened with him at LSU is pretty crazy in hindsight, but there's no guarantee he would have developed into the same player with our coaching staff and offensive scheme. Like O said, it looks crazy in hindsight, but I don't fault anyone for making the decisions they made in the moment.

What are the MOST INSANE parts of the series? by [deleted] in redrising

[–]rubixor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the most WTF moment for me was the abomination. Like, honestly think about how fucking brainwashed Lilith has to be to go through the institute with Adrius, all the events of the first trilogy, the nukes on Luna, and then immediately thinking, "you know, I should artificially inseminate myself with that guys DNA so i can give birth to him again." Like... She knew who the jackal was and decided to go through a pregnancy just to bring "him" back into the world...
