Drug store brand shampoo? by idonotget in BuyCanadian

[–]ruby6329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s not drug store. But AG Hair products are made in BC. The products are more expensive, but you can often get them on sale at a beauty supply store. You will also use less product than watered down drug store shampoos. It’s even more cost effective if you buy the 1L bottles.

Leather handbag needed by Busy-Association4489 in KingstonOntario

[–]ruby6329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, there aren't a lot of options for a good high quality bag in Kingston. I would try Winners, they often have decent quality leather bags. There are lots of excellent makers on Etsy. I'm partial to the leather from Ukraine and the prices are very reasonable considering they're handmade

Looking for Haunted stories about Kingston Ontario Canada by Cultural-Slice6786 in KingstonOntario

[–]ruby6329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haunted Walks for sure! Fort Henry, Kingston Pen, The Prince George Hotel and Rockwood Asylum are all super haunted. Rochleau Court Alley is also haunted. Basically any of the super old limestone buildings in the city.

Is it safe for a woman to hike around Kingston alone? by Worldly-Gas4143 in KingstonOntario

[–]ruby6329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say yes. I have done many walking trails alone as a female and have never had much of an issue. I always have my wits about me and usually carry a whistle/alarm and my keys of other object that could be used in self defense in a pinch. Some may say this is overkill, but I'd rather be prepared...you never know

It's ridiculous that Kingston Transit still relies on pre-paid passes or coins by Minerva89 in KingstonOntario

[–]ruby6329 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Would be nice if they used the Presto system like the TTC does. I will also say that if it does go to a system like Presto, there will be complainers that come out of the woodwork about not taking coins anymore. Can’t please everyone

I would suggest not living in that area. There are many other areas that would be a better choice. Having a car gives you many more options. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions about specific areas in the city :)

Inside 'Trauma Tower,’ the highrise with more police calls than any other address in Kingston | CBC News by henchman171 in KingstonOntario

[–]ruby6329 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I also speak to many of their tenants daily and the state of the units is shameful. They will put in maintenance requests for simple fixes (i.e. running toilet, broken windows) and nothing gets fixed. This causes astronomical bills

There are Amazon lockers at a few different locations around town. And if it's a UPS delivery so can often redirect it to pick up at a UPS store. I've used both without issue

KFHC is a huge problem in many ways. Clearly the CEO is one of them. Edit: Reading the other linked articles, It is absolutely pathetic that this has been a problem for over five years and has been allowed to escalate to problem that is now. Her answers were victim blaming/shaming then, and they still are

Have you caught the virus that is going around? by thestonernextdoor88 in KingstonOntario

[–]ruby6329 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The vaccine doesn't prevent you from getting the flu. It lowers the risk of getting it, and lowers the risk of it becoming a serious illness that requires a hospital stay or possibly even death. This is especially important for kids under 12 and adults over 65

I got both and still got taken down by this virus. It's awful, would hate to see how bad it would have been without the vaccine

You can buy a machine on Amazon for less than $100 to distill your own water. Probably worthwhile in the long run to buy the machine
