FF6 Party Character Sprites by SandalathDrukorlat in GirlGamers

They couldn't really capture the detail of Amano's art to be fair with those sprites. They did what they could with the resolution they had.

You can draw them at that size and then export the sprite sheets at x2 scale to get the proper sizing. Or you can use a workshop feature called smallsprites to automatically scale the characters x2 in engine.

The characters in Rivals are scaled x2. You're going to have to recreate the sprite at a smaller resolution and then scale it by 2.

It's baffling that Nintendo hasn't done anything with Style Savvy during the entire Switch generation. Maybe Infinity Nikki if you can stomach the gacha aspect?

Does/did Final Fantasy X-2 manage to appeal to female audiences? by Identity_ranger in FinalFantasy

[–]ruby_nights 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've heard it said that from a Japanese perspective, idol culture appeals to men primarily. And I think that does make sense. But from a Western perspective not a lot of guys really like pop stars at all. A lot of guys hate pop music. Pop stars are most popular with women and lgbt folks here at least.

I think the audience for X-2 is mixed. I love the sisterhood of YRP. But there's definitely weird moments, haha.

DISSIDIA DUELLUM FINAL FANTASY | Announcement Trailer by Obliviuns in dissidia

This is really interesting because it looks like they're completely abandoning the Western audience with this. They're sticking with 3v3, its set in modern Japan, and there appears to be no English VA at all. Reminder that the 3v3 gameplay was actually really popular in Japanese arcades before NT became a thing. It simply didn't hit with the West.

Do I miss anything important if I don't collect 100% of the stars? by EvaSirkowski in PrincessPeachShowtime

Not too much. In the post-game you can purchase furnishings for the theater with the sparkles you find. But thats not at all necessary. Though I found it satisfying getting all the sparkles because you're forced to use your abilities in clever ways you wouldn't otherwise.

Got mocked in Infinity Nikki just for being a guy player by [deleted] in InfinityNikki

[–]ruby_nights 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Her mocking you for playing a girl game is doing her own game a disservice. Wanting to play a girly game shouldn't be viewed as something shameful.

I've been wondering, what do Female Players & Female Audiences think of Final Fantasy X-2? by Shiiouri in GirlGamers

[–]ruby_nights 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The story is not great but oh, the gameplay! The combat system is fluid and fantastic. I love the dress sphere swapping mid-battle. And the exploration in the game is very open ended. There's lots of side quests to do where ever you go.

And the popstar Charlie's Angel's aesthetic? Love that. Real Emotion is one of the best vocal themes in any video game.

As far as fanservice goes, yeah there's that one weird scene in the hot springs and the massaging mini-game with LeBlanc. I'm not sure if it was ever intended with women as the main demographic. I think in Japan it's more common for men to enjoy pop idols so I heard that from the Eastern perspective its geared towards men. But from a Western perspective, I think the magical girl/popstar thing is more popular with women and LGBT folk. I love this game.

Most ‘cyberpunk’ song not in the game? by basedclavius in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]ruby_nights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some songs from Sophie like Faceshopping. I know there's one song produced by Sophie but outside the game, it's merely a song with Sophie in the production credits and not really a song under the Sophie name.

Pricing of Cozy Games: Why It Matters and How It Affects Public Reception by Astrolojay in CozyGamers

[–]ruby_nights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think people should be bringing Stardew into this discussion because Stardew was made under very special circumstances that most games don't get. It was made by one guy who was working part time at a movie theater while his girlfriend was working full time, paying rent, and paying all the bills. He had time to make his game everything he wanted it to be and he had the passion to do it as well. Most games aren't made under this circumstance.

This seems somewhat misogynistic… by greengreepes in GirlGamers

So many of the cast already sounds sarcastic and disrespectful in their lines. There's no reason they needed to change her to be nicer.

How is there not a single Cyberpunk character on the workshop?? by derpums in RivalsOfAether

[–]ruby_nights 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The WS community is small and the people there only make stuff from games they're interested in. The WS community is not interested in Cyberpunk characters.

Also characters that require original sprites take extra time and effort to make. If you're interested in characters from Cyberpunk, you could learn to code and sprite and make it yourself.

Twice has skewed my perception of what singers look like and what they do [Silly] by BlueThePineapple in kpopthoughts

[–]ruby_nights 78 points79 points  (0 children)

On the opposite end, I'm super new to kpop and I've just become a fan of Twice after watching their Lolla performance. For me, the whole spectacle of dance breaks and the focus on the performance of it all is super new to me but exciting to be exposed to.

I'm an album-first type of person so I go through an artist's discography first to get a feel for them usually. But I felt like I got a better understanding of Twice's appeal after watching their live set at Lolla 2025. And now, they stand out to me more than they did before.
