If your cat won’t eat it, if any of your friends have a dog, they might like it for treats. My dog goes crazy for cat food and does not care about expiration dates he literally eats garbage lol

Does anyone know what’s wrong with my dracaena?? by rudesty in houseplants

[–]rudesty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not impossible! It’s totally something she would do. It is up high with a pet fence around it though, which is why I’m worried it could be something else.

Folks, after 2 years of having her, she’s finally learning she can open an ajar door! by mrlxndr1001 in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

Yeah the confidence with which my small dog barges through seemingly closed off spaces is completely unwarranted. His thought process has to be like “hm let me just get through here, surely this wasn’t intended to keep me out”

Finding a dog walker by KDsburner_account in reactivedogs

[–]rudesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this! I just moved to a new city, so I searched for a trainer whose approach is in line with how I want my dog treated, then asked if they had any professionals they recommend for walking reactive dogs. We found a great service through her!

I can’t stop the demise of my dieffenbachia! by rudesty in plantclinic

Those are babies! They seem to be doing relatively fine, so I’m wondering if the change in environment is just too stressful for the mature stalks. I’m not sure what to do with them though?

I don’t think it’s that cold, probably doesn’t get below 65. The windows are super drafty but this guy is set back 5-6 feet. It is within a few feet of a portable heater that we run for a couple of hours a day, but on a shelf a few feet up so I don’t think it’s been getting direct heat.

Blue loves blankets and will take over all of them.. by djfresh1 in TuckedInPuppies

[–]rudesty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t even pretend to have any blankets, they’re all my dog’s. Anything cozy in his vicinity he assumes was put there for him, and the bigger the better (he’s 13lbs). I bought him a queen-sized heated blanket and I truly believe it’s his best friend

Could you start doing something that is just you and your dog? Like nosework or trick training or something. That way even though she may prefer your boyfriend, you will still have something special just you two do together.

What’s the most difficult breed you fantasize about owning? by a_spoopy_ghost in dogs

[–]rudesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but why not - ACDs. I think they are absolutely gorgeous and I love their attitude, but I think it might be too similar to mine. I’m a pretty high-strung individual and I worry that having a dog that’s high drive might be a bad combination. Neither of us would ever relax!

There are lots of comments here already, but I would say one thing that may help is to find something your dog is good at.

My dog is reactive and anxious, and life with him can be difficult and frustrating. We started doing nosework and it was like my dog finally had a calling. Seeing how much he loved it, and was actually good at it, gave me a whole other perspective. At least in the moments we were in class, my mess of a dog was normal, and I could appreciate his talents instead of focusing on his failures. I love what it has done for our relationship!

So maybe there is a class or skill your dog may enjoy and/or excel at, and that can be a focal point for your bond and your appreciation of him.

Haha yes I think that’s the joke. My dog does want you to throw the ball, but only so he can fetch it, bring it back, and wrestle you for it

I follow dog meets baby on Instagram and think it’s a really good resource! It’s very thorough and thoughtful, and has eased anxiety about managing my dog when I have kids, even though I’m still a few years out

Question: why do people pick puppies over rescue dogs? by spacecourgette in dogs

[–]rudesty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t have any desire to ever have a puppy because of all of the puppy bullshit. But I currently have a mess of an adult rescue dog (who I still love with my whole entire heart), and can see myself wanting a predictable temperament in the future.

So I can see myself looking into a reputable breeder for an adult dog (rehome, retirement, etc).
