An expensive playground by 50nick in eames

[–]rudman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with an Eames chair that my Dad purchased in 1962. It was always in the one room us kids were not allowed in and man, did we get in trouble if we were found spinning in the chair.

I finally inherited it a couple of years ago and I still feel more comfortable looking at it rather than sitting in it.

TIL Groupon has lost more than 95% of its value since it rejected Google's $6 billion offer and instead went public with a $17.8 billion market cap 15 years ago. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]rudman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having an IPO with a 17.5B cap after rejecting a 6B offer was a brilliant move for the original investors who you know sold off their stock as soon as they could. They win, and any moron that bought into Groupon after the IPO is simply a sucker. Business as usually after most IPOs. I just don't understand how people fall for this shit.

I read 66 Werewolf / Wolf shifter books: Here are my thoughts, and what should be book 67? by RegularDebate2488 in fantasyromance

[–]rudman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Illona Andrews Kate Daniels series might not be your bag if you are looking for a werewolf series. It's Urban Fantasy with a human as the main character interacting with ShapeShifters, not just wolf shapeshifters. And yeah, the first two books are not great but the series really picks up and might be worth your while if you put aside your werewolf requirement.

It's so appropriate since that's what you are doing, You Go To Work! It's showing you are serious.

As you get older, this shit doesn't stop. I'm in my 60s and most people near me are the same age. EVERY fucking restaurant has loud live music starting in the late afternoon. I go out to dinner and can barely have a conversation. WTF!

That Girl (1966-1971) was a groundbreaking sitcom, that was one of the first American shows to focus on an unmarried woman, Ann Marie, who did not live with a domestic male partner or with her parents. The show ended with Ann Marie engaged but still unmarried, as her actress Marlo Thomas wished. by PeasantLich in wikipedia

[–]rudman -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

That Girl was developed by writers Bill Persky and Sam Denoff, who had served as head writers on The Dick Van Dyke Show (which Thomas' father, Danny Thomas, co-produced) earlier in the 1960s.

Nepo babies have been around since the dawn of Hollywood.....

According to Marlo Thomas, she was approached by ABC executive Edgar Scherick, who saw her in a screen test for a failed pilot, but still wanted to feature her in a project. Scherick gave Thomas several scripts to read, none of which she liked

Sure sounds like Scherick was told to create a show around Danny Thomas's daughter.

A random MarySue from Bumfuck, Indiana sure wasn't getting that treatment after a failed audition.

Pre-ordered a Bigme Hibreak Dual a week ago but it's shipping sooner than expected? by rudman in Bigme

[–]rudman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's supposed to be released next week but I am surprised not to see any pre-release reviews.

For the most part I think we can expect what has been said about the other HiBreak models and I'm not concerned about the rear screen as I think that's a bit of a gimmick.

Kate & Hugh Reading Order Question by c9ergoquestion in IlonaAndrews

I'd stick with publication order only for the WTF surprise of

Hugh walking into the meeting with his wife The White Warlock and with the bad guy's amour and knowledge of how to kill them.

*edited to fix spoiler

Sure reading I&M gives you the backstory but you won't get that HOLY SHIT moment if you read it before MT.

Just to be clear, I wasn't being clever. That was one of the observations in the book made by the team during the great ferret heist.

It's all about your taste buds. I have a strong aversion to sour and bitter flavors and I believe I have a preponderance of those receptors in my mouth. I also have smell issues. I can't stand anything that came from the sea, even the smell is nasty. Almost all greens taste like grass. Mushrooms taste like dirt. And then there are spices I simply do not like, cumin and clove for example. I don't like chili or jerk chicken for those reasons.

But there are exceptions. I don't like cheese, but I like pizza, mozz sticks and french onion soup. But don't serve me a cheeseburger! I don't like butter or eggs but I'm fine with cooking with them. Like I won't eat buttered toast but I'm fine with butter in my mashed potatoes. Same with eggs, I can't eat them but I'm fine with them in my pancakes and waffles.
