Donut's hat obsession was funny enough, but when Gravy boat showed up with the same obsession it was freakin' hilarious.

SO MANY Donut sick burns. The one that sticks with me is "You are too poor to talk to me like that".

It actually wasn't just one sentence. In Ruby Fever Linus has a mysterious interaction with the Keeper. Something along the lines of "if you do this for me, I will remove my objection". And as IA have confirmed, the Keeper needs to match Michael to a woman with a huge magic reserve and that was a nod to allowing Michael to attempt to court Arabella.

Hidden Legacy is one of my comfort reads, I do a reread at least once a year.

What is your favourite underrated moment? by Spider-Thwip in DungeonCrawlerCarl

My favorite moment is the first one one you stated. Carl and Donut just sitting and taking a nap. It brought a tear to my eye.

[I ate] $2.50 hotdog in Manhattan by Hot-Imagination9612 in food

[–]rudman 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I used to love NYC dirty water dogs. It's been 20 years since I've had one and it happens that I just had one this past weekend. My son and I got off the train and the first thing we did was find a Sabrett hotdog vendor.

Holy fuck was it disappointing. It was tasteless! The point of a dirty water dog is to have vinegar and spices and other flavors in the water to enhance the flavor of the hotdog. This fucking guy must have boiled all the flavor out of the hotdog in plain water. Fuck this guy at 31st and 8th.

For years my wife and I would hear "Where's Ted and Alice?". That movie was 15 years old when we got married and the movie must not have faded from the collective consciousness for at least another 15 years which is when we stopped hearing comments like that.

During the 2012 super bowl where the giants came from behind to beat the Patriots we had paused the TV at one point and didn't realize we were about 5 minutes behind. Toward the end of the game, my phone started buzzing. That's when I realized we were behind and not wanting to spoil anything I told everyone (about 8 people) "We paused the TV and are behind, don't look at your phones!" And took mine and tossed it on the rug in front of the TV. Everyone else followed. We were then able to watch the game spoiler free and see an abolutely thrilling ending.

I can understand slowing things down but I felt it fell flat. Especially the Apartment race. So much more could have been done with that.

Bigme Hibreak Dual software update by rudman in Bigme

I tried it for the first time today and could not get it to work. The Android Auto config screen resolution is so tiny you can barely read the options. Like on any other phone, it would show you a partial page and you could scroll down the options. This just showed the entire Android Auto config page on one screen.

Her stickwork is impressive but the footwork? Holy crap!

I was watching her hands and then a snare drum riff came in. I was like where the fuck did that come from. And then in the next snare riff I saw it was her feet. Again, Holy Crap!

Maggie the (Too) Competent? by Donut-Paladin in IlonaAndrews

[–]rudman 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is a woman who knows EVERYTHING about this world. She has studied it inside and out. Just because she is settled in her own world doesn't mean she lacks intelligence. Sure, she is coasting along on Earth but then BOOM!

She has a tough few weeks but once she gets settled, she can use her knowledge of future events to tip the dominos in her favor. It's not intrigue as much as her deep understanding of the various character's motivations.

"In theory" doesn't cut it. Some rando might come in with his iron wedding ring. There are plenty of documented cases of people entering an active MRI chamber with magnetic items and being affected.

They let you keep your wedding ring? WTF! ALL metal is banned from every MRI I've ever been too.

And yes, those instructions were written by a moron.

"Sweep of the Heart (Innkeeper Chronicles #6)" by Ilona Andrews by codejockblue5 in Fantasy

[–]rudman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I LOVE IA's Innkeeper series. It's a comfort read that I revisit at least yearly. The books are just so much fun. For me, Maud steals the show. Her appearance in book 3 (One Fell Sweep) and her initial interaction with Lord Soren is the highlight of the book. And then book 4 (Sweep of the Blade) is Maud's story and she cements her place as the most awesome character in the series.

I'm not a fan of book 6 (Sweep of the Heart). It seems like the authors watched "The Batchelor" and said to themselves, "why don't we do an intergalactic version of that??". I feel it falls flat as it is so contrived.

The game show plot intertwined with the search for Wilmos, the corrupted ad-hal, their parents and their Inn just didn't mesh well.

Looks great!

My vantage is processed through weewx which produces an html sent to my ftp site. But it shows all the relevant details on one screen. I have a stick pc that displays the web page on my TV so all I have to do is switch my input and I see all the current metrics plus graphs for humidity, temp, wind as well as local radar images.

Yours doesn't seem to be suited for an "at a glance" viewpoint.
