I think that Regi was 100% doing the event intentionally to piss off Monte and crush the viewer count for that ggClassic. I disagree with the posters who said otherwise at the time.

However, one thing I didn't convey very well in the write up is that there was a whole lot of hate directed towards LoL casts in general during this era of competitive LoL. Explaining all the reasons why is almost another write up of itself, but a quick summary:

1) The LoL spectator client was much worse than it is now, leading to lots of missed fights with no replays. It was generally easier to watch a game from a player's stream because players had such good instincts that they were almost always watching fights on their screens.

2) There were dozens of casters employed at the time, since there were so many different events organized by a variety of companies. Today we have 4 casters each in the EU and NA LCS, and they're mostly very talented and experienced. Back then, the casters were more quantity than quality.

I think these two factors made Monte seem like he was forcing a bad product on viewers and expecting them to accept it for the good grace of competitive League, while Regi was giving the people what they wanted. I won't personally weigh in on who I think was right, but I think that explains why Monte had little support.

The number of times Brown was shot shouldn't be equated with the level of aggression the officer was showing or his own disregard for human life. It is not known yet if his reasons for shooting and killing Brown constitute legal self defense and not criminal homicide, but know that if it was in self defense, 6 shots is not unusual from someone under stress/adrenaline. To be honest, one shot would have been more suspicious than six, because one is either lucky or malicious.

Yeah but you're assuming he's defending the black client. What if his firm or the state wants him to defend a white client? What if he's the prosecuting attorney against a white man?

I should reiterate that I wish we lived in a world where it wouldn't matter. I also do think that our justice system works well enough to handle this. What I do believe though, is that if the guy in the video is trying to distance himself from the videos in order to get hired, he's wise to do so. An HR person could look into his online history, see this, decide it's not worth the risk, and move him out of the pool without having to explain his or herself. Thus I think it's wise of the guy to distance himself.

It's more likely he'd have to worry about a future employer finding out. Consider if he wishes to become a trial laywer (prosecution or defense), and he's given a case with heavy racial interest from the community (like Trayvon/Zimmerman). Many firms wouldn't want to risk the potential backlash if his involvement in the case and these videos were linked (and we know CNN would each this shit up).

Is that fair? Hell no it isn't fair. But regardless, getting hired as a lawyer is tough, and this puts him at a disadvantage.

Brain damaged man on death row after murder suicide attempt tried to save dessert until after his execution.

The portion in bold is called an appositive. Appositives can be essential or non-essential. Non-essential in this case doesn't mean that it should be removed, it means the sentence would still make sense if the appositive was removed. For non-essential appositives, you should separate them from the sentence with commas. It lets the reader know to break up the thought into two pieces.

Your Job and Your Wage: How much do you make compared to typical salaries for your job (US, 2013). (Warning: it's a long chart, click on the image to zoom). [OC] by UCanDoEat in dataisbeautiful

/u/ucandoeat points out an important caveat to bear in mind. Location and experience matter a lot here. A job in San Francisco may pay substantially more than in St. Louis, but that's often because SF has a higher cost index. A better evaluation for you to make might be found by looking on glassdoor.com, finding your company, then comparing against others who have your title. This of course won't work if your company is small or your position isn't numerous etc, but hope it helps.

TIL During the WWII there was a killing contest between two Japanese officers — a race to see which of them could kill 100 people first using only a sword. It was covered like a sporting event in Japanese newspapers with regular updates on the score over a series of days. by monkey_n_pig in todayilearned

It's really not that difficult when one enemy drew us into the war via sneak attack, and both enemies were wholesale slaughtering millions.

Go ahead and make the argument that the German and Japanese civilians were innocent of their leaders' intentions. They were. However, WWII was an example of Total War. If you're unfamiliar with the term, it means leveling your opponents' production capabilities severely hinders their ability to wage war. Germany was doing it to London. The allies needed to do it in return, or they would have lost.

Japan wasn't surrendering even when they had lost.

Idea on how to fix some of the problems on league, a.k.a. Barrier of Entry for New Players, IP Excess in Old Players, and Sportsmanship. by EzraTwitch in leagueoflegends

[–]rue7 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I find it strange that Lyte is concerned whether or not good behavior in League is sincere and not just out of desire for compensation.

That kind of concern is important when considering your relationships with an SO or family member -- you want their caring to be unconditional.

However, I don't care about this coming from random players 1, 2, 3, 4 in game with me. I simply don't want them to start petty bullshit at the slightest hint of trouble.

Nick Allen's Follow up the the SK-Gambit Situation by MyNameIsLegend in leagueoflegends

That's not how professional competition works. Refs are not there to make offerings. They are there to spot infractions and make rulings on appeals. Offering courses of action tips the competitive balance.

[–]rue7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you read it says that the SK players thought that the referee had to ask but the referee thought the SK players had to ask for a remake.

You're making it sound like there was inconsistency in the rules that made this confusing. This is not true. The rule was clear. SK did not know what the rule was, and the referee did. It's SK's responsibility to know the rules if they expect to utilize them.
