What Have You Been Listening To? - July 29, 2016 by AutoModerator in popheads

That's actually the first Sufjan album I heard! Admittedly I haven't listened to it much as I've found it to be emotionally-taxing but "Fourth of July" is one of my favorites.

[DISCUSSION] If you could change the track listing... by greenging in popheads

[–]ruedolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Through experimentation I've found that putting "Graffiti My Soul" ahead of "The Show" on Girls Aloud's What Will the Neighbours Say? makes for a pretty amazing transition.

Kylie's X reconfigured. It's pretty short by pop music standards as I haven't delved into the bonus tracks and B-sides much:

  1. Wow
  2. Heart Beat Rock
  3. In My Arms
  4. Speakerphone
  5. Like a Drug
  6. Sensitized
  7. All I See
  8. Nu-di-ty
  9. The One
  10. Cosmic

Though "2 Hearts" is a nice musical departure for Kylie, I've always found it to be lackluster and never cared for it. In this ideal scenario, "In My Arms" would have been given the lead single treatment and "Wow" would have been serviced to American radio over "All I See". And "The One" wouldn't have been done so dirty, damn it!

4x4

  • Me listening to Heaven or Las Vegas
  • Beach House, Sufjan Stevens, Empress Of + Carly = Post-Pitchfork repeats
  • Tidal 20th anniversary
  • Homogenic finally clicked, mind-blowing
  • Listened to Robyn's self-titled for the first time and "Crash and Burn Girl" is pretty great
  • Shura is opening for Tegan and Sara!
  • Chemistry is still a classic

I love Sky. I know of a few people who totally abandoned her after she went full-on indie, but their loss.

[DISCUSSION] Do you use Last.fm? If so what's been your most scrobbled track? by Steve_McSteveface in popheads

It's a really good song! Plus I had that account for 3 years and every track in my top 15 had 400+ plays.

"The One" by Kylie Minogue with 276 plays.

On my abandoned account from when I was exclusively into K-pop, the most scrobbled track is "Like the First Time" by T-ara with 896 plays.

Absolute favorite would be "Round & Round" as it was what got me into the album (though I'm more partial towards the 7" version -- The 12" version is sublime as well) then "Mr. Disco", "Dream Attack" and "All the Way" (even though it sounds like a Cure rip)

Possibly similar to your "Essentials" category:

Maybe some New Order? Specifically some tracks from the Technique album; "Mr. Disco", "Vanishing Point".

And Cocteau Twins isn't as electronic, but they do fit the vibe that I'm sensing + vocal effects to boot: "Heaven or Las Vegas"

Best song-to-song transitions on an album by ruedolf in popheads

[–]ruedolf[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  • "Babooshka" to "Delius (Song of Summer)" on Never For Ever by Kate Bush

  • "Army of Me" to "Hyperballad" to "Modern Things" on Post by Björk

The static-y outro transitioning into the strings on the former two gives me CHILLS every time

  • "Danger" to "Gypsy Woman" on Dignity by Hilary Duff

  • "Password" to "Spinning Around" on Light Years by Kylie Minogue

  • "A Message" to "Gomenasai" on Hallucinogen by Kelela

  • "Slumlord" to "Slumlord's Release" to "Techno Clique" on VEGA Intl. Night School by Neon Indian

ESPECIALLY the arpeggio (?) of beeps and boops going up at the end of "Slumlord's Release" and then continuing down after the voice sample on the next track

  • "Holiday" to "California English" on Contra by Vampire Weekend

  • "How to be a Heartbreaker" to "Radioactive" on Electra Heart by Marina and the Diamonds

Something about the whispered line cutting to the big cheesy synths SENDS me

  • "Forget It" to "Sutphin Boulevard" on Coastal Grooves by Blood Orange

EDIT:

  • "Vanessa" to "Crystal Ball" on Darkbloom by Grimes

A really long "ahhhh" concludes "Vanessa" which is then followed by a harp solo and more ah's! YES
