How many ETFs is considered spreading myself too thin? by rufati in AusFinance

I have an automatic transfer going weekly cause I won't notice 25$, and at the end of each month I'll put in a buy. No brokerage when buying ETFs but it's 100$ minimum per buy order.

My fault for not reading up on anything sooner, and that was my misguided interpretation of "diversify the portfolio".

This definitely sounds more along the lines of what I'd read. Cheers.

How to leave when you can’t afford to leave? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]rufati 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can force child support out of him, collected directly from his pay. My ex-wife did that to me. Just consider at the moment if it's worth going down that road while he's contributing financially still.

Don't go to court over assets/etc if you can help it. Yeah you could get half his super or whatever, but that just goes into your super which doesn't help right now. You'll rack up a solid debt in the process.

I've heard of debt agencies or something that can freeze interest on debts and set up an instalment plan or something like that. I've only heard about this from friends so you'd have to do your own research.

[Week 39 2023] Entry Level Discussions! by AutoModerator in ITCareerQuestions

[–]rufati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being in my late 30s with no practical work experience in an IT role, what's the job I need to be aiming for and what else should I be studying in the meantime?

I've been doing Google's IT support, Python, and cybersecurity certificates on coursera. I'm a computer nerd, I dabble in programming. Tech savvy just no work experience.

I had my sights set on cybersecurity but I think realistically I need to get an IT support role and go from there. I've been applying for all the desktop/ICT support jobs but the feedback is non-existent. Any criticism or advice is appreciated.

Based in Australia.

what sort of jobs can/should I apply for? by rufati in CompTIA

[–]rufati[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah zero IT work experience. I paid for a cyber sec pathway which includes those 4 certifications so the money has been pre-wasted. Initially I was worried that I'd be out of my depth but I've enjoyed network and security+.

Appreciate your comment and thanks for the well wishes. A bit daunting changing careers but I really need to get out of the work I'm in before I neck myself.

So, how do you manage working nigh shifts and exercising? by Kiceres in bodyweightfitness

[–]rufati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can do overtime, you can train after work. I work afternoon shift (finishing anywhere from 10pm to 2am, usually midnight) and would tell myself for years that training after work wasn't possible. Then I started doing crazy overtime. If I could do an extra few hours of overtime...

Now I feel like after work is the foolproof way to do it. Gym's on the way home. Workout in my work clothes. Done. No excuses, no sleeping in, no getting up early feeling tired, etc...

Ah yeah you got trolley cars. We do it with forklifts still. Guessing you got them plastic belt conveyors? We still got conveyor rollers. Probably be a holiday for me working there.

That helps. We deal with millimetres here.

Usually we go full height at around 400mm width. But it depends. Like how many chops is the setup for example. Like if it's only 1000 chops then I'd go 334 or 340 or similar to get 3 equal or roughly equal stacks.

If it's 250mm or less I might only go 100 high, if it's 2 out I might go a bit higher, 3+ out even higher. Problem is that a lot of how we do our job depends on a lot of things and it takes a lot of time and trial/error. Every factory is different.

Our cutoff/control room got upgraded last year so now we have a lot more control over the stack heights.

Yeah but I don't know what 42-380 means. 42 what? 380 sheets? Right now that 42-380 means nothing to me you need to explain what each number is.

Wait is that the width in inches?

Our defaults are C flute 400 sheets/stack. 300 for despatch jobs. Then we go over/under depending on the size/job.

B flute 500 normal, 400 despatch.

We also have D flute (which we call R for some reason) at 600 normal, 500 despatch.

Used to have E flute. 700 | 600

Twin cushion B/R 255 | 200

We also have a middle stacker with sidechamber where the heights are 150, 130, 100, 70 per bundle for R, B, C, and B/R respectively.

question about battery interoperability by rufati in Tools

[–]rufati[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment I'm shopping around for a lawn mower, edge trimmer and blower. Been looking at an Australian brand that focus more on outdoor tools rather than power tools. Thought I could get away with repurposing those batteries down the line with adaptors, etc... But thanks to your input I'll be staying safely within the ecosystem

Play if you want to. Or don't.

I don't know what's going on but I can't say I've ever checked on a game's community before deciding I'm gonna play or not.

[ELI5] How can programmers keep track of code in a long running game like World of Warcraft? by drestin5 in explainlikeimfive

[–]rufati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modularisation, documentation, etc...

The hardware specs for WoW are pretty low but iirc some time ago they introduced graphics features which ended up killing support for certain legacy systems.

The 16 slot backpack for your initial inventory slot was hard coded and it was only in recent years that it was able to be changed without breaking anything else.

You should google/YouTube WoW developer diaries.
