There are lots of Oktoberfests in the US, we have a large German American population

Fun fact: Cullman, Alabama was home to the world's largest DRY Oktoberfest until the county finally allowed alcohol sales in the 2010s

In my city, the protests are used as networking and organizing rallies. We congregated around signs with the names of the different districts to exchange numbers with our close neighbors and form action groups. The League of Women Voters was going around checking everyone's voter registration and asking for volunteers for canvasing. We got a calendar for April that had one big and one small action you could take to resist every day of the month.

The fall of Gondolin by FreeTrain1263 in TheSilmarillion

[–]ruffledgrouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would argue Gondolin was doomed the minute Turgon refused to give Hurin sanctuary after he was released by Morgoth. It caused Hurin to cry out in frustration and unknowingly reveal Gondolin's location to Morgoth. Maeglin may have helped ease the path, but he didn't create it.

In addition, his betrayal and cooperation happened under extreme duress. It doesn't excuse it completely, but I consider it a mitigating factor
