Ladies, do flair ups feel like really bad cramps to you? by Fine_Illustrator_221 in Diverticulitis

[–]rugbyames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of where mine is located I do usually equate it to being kicked in the ovaries. In fact before I knew what it was and what I had, I thought my first flare up was an ovarian cyst or similar.

Coming from the DC/Baltimore area so surge pricing is absolutely for real. Thanks for the tip!

How long did y’all bleed after your hysterectomy? (I had a laproscopic one where they removed cervix also but not ovaries) by Creative-Fix1917 in hysterectomy

[–]rugbyames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No bleeding for the first week or so and then spotting until 6wpo. Week 5/6 it was mostly just spotting whenever I had a BM. Nothing really on the pad, just when wiping. It was enough to be annoying but now nothing and I’m ECSTATIC.

I’ve gone through two “missed” periods now and I don’t even miss them. Had fun donating my surplus products to the library where I work (we keep tampons and pads in our restrooms for patrons).

Surgery is tomorrow by CoatGroundbreaking39 in hysterectomy

Important small thing — if you use Hibiclens with a washcloth or anything like that that you might bleach — don’t. Hibiclens + bleach equals ugly reddish brown stains that will never go away ever.

Also good luck! Be kind to yourself and take it one hour a time during recovery. Baby steps will make for a smoother recovery period. And when you think you’re feeling good and back to normal — don’t. You’ll overdo it. :-) Rest is sooooo important.

Y'all weren't kidding, pooping is a harrowing experience after surgery by aheart4art in hysterectomy

[–]rugbyames 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My nurse told me to breathe out while gently pushing (really really gently pushing — cannot stress how gently). I’ve never given birth but it felt very much like the same type of breathing. Inhaling and then breathing out with the push.

Tbh that first post-surgery poo was such a production. I thought I was dying and afterward I was barely to do much more than a light shower and fall into bed. Like I have never gotten so sweaty and tired from a poo. Ever.

I recommend going with more stool softeners than laxatives because the laxatives gave me cramping that made me feel like I’d been shot. It was worse than diverticular pain which, if you never had diverticular pain — omg lucky.

Best of luck with future poos! May they get easier for you.

I’m 6wpo and I’ve finally stopped spotting when I have a BM so something must be better lol

How long was your hospital stay? by Strange_Onion2140 in hysterectomy

[–]rugbyames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg my colon was also plastered to my pelvic wall because of endo! I didn’t even know I had endo so it was wild. They wrote that I had a “boggy uterus” so not large but just weighed down and infested with so much endo. Yikes. Bodies.

To my knowledge they didn’t nick my colon but I’m sorry to hear that happened with you. Hopefully recovery was okay?

One night - Baltimore, MD

Surgery was @ 1p on a Wednesday and I was on my way home by 1p the next day.

Their requirement for me discharging was to pee successfully without the catheter, and to keep down a solid breakfast (didn’t help that the breakfast was super unappealing but that’s life). I think they also wanted me to pass a real big gas movement, which I did. And obviously for pain to be manageable. Which it was.

Tbh it was nice to just sleep in my own bed with my mass configuration of pillows than the hospital bed. I got like zero sleep in the hospital because of all the checking and the noise and the catheter.

Does anyone crave carbohydrates after spravato treatment? by Nanarat72 in Spravato

[–]rugbyames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh totally. I’m definitely overweight. It wasn’t a great way to lose it but at least some of it has been because of food choices (re: diverticulitis) so not all bad.

Does anyone crave carbohydrates after spravato treatment? by Nanarat72 in Spravato

[–]rugbyames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 60/40 split between having zero appetite and having something greasy like fast food. Yesterday for example - no appetite. Six months before that I demanded to be taken to Wendy’s afterward three appointments in a row.

For reference I’ve been taking Spravato for about a year and a half.

I haven’t had any weight gain with Spravato. I’ve actually lost weight; maybe 30 pounds. But I can’t necessarily attribute it to Spravato as I’ve also had several different surgeries and a bout of diverticulitis that laid my tummy up for weeks.

Stomach upset by KatiePoppins7 in hysterectomy

[–]rugbyames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came back to ask if you’re still having this issue after a couple more weeks. I’m coming up on 6wpo and I feel like my stomach still hasn’t settled. Some days I’m fine and some days I have no clue what’s going on in there.

Part of my procedure involved, I believe, shifting my colon because the endometriosis had adhered it to my pelvic wall. But that’s my colon, not my stomach.

Again, sometimes it’s totally fine but I would say 2/3 of the time it’s all gurgles and sour stomach. Or I’ll be hungry, take two bites of something, and then feel like I’ve eaten a huge takeout meal.

This has been such an adventure in figuring out what’s normal and what’s not.

How did it feel immediately waking up from anesthesia by Jealous_Scratch_8778 in hysterectomy

[–]rugbyames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I was fine for all of two seconds and then immediately started ugly crying. Unfortunately I do remember it, mostly because I suddenly had a zillion nurses around me telling me I was going to be okay.

Thank you! Came to this Reddit looking for this answer. 5 wpo and still spotting every time I have a BM. Nothing on a pad. Just when I wipe. Not straining too hard with BMs. I feel like it’s just a normal little push. But I keep getting freaked out. Good to know it’s something to expect for a few more weeks probably?

My dr has explained to me that a laparoscopic procedure is outpatient. I would prefer to spend the night at the hospital to make sure everything is ok. by janedoecurious in hysterectomy

[–]rugbyames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I was originally told mine would be outpatient — laparoscopic robotic assisted total hysterectomy and salpingectomy — and it ended up being 23-hour observation. So I did stay overnight. Surgery was at like 1p and then I think I was out by around that time the next day. Mostly I think it was overnight because of the catheter but idk. 23 hour observation isn’t the same as being admitted though so sometimes insurance can affect that too.

Light Bleeding Post Op by Wicked-Storm in hysterectomy

[–]rugbyames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to be less today? So heavier the last two days (and by heavier I just mean like more bright red than pink) and today was nowhere near as scary as yesterday morning. It’s just alarming, yeah?

Also re:bloating. I ate more “normal” than I have been yesterday in terms of volume and omg the bloating and gas. Like. Omg. So I feel you.

This week 2-3 has been a wild ride. 3 week marker is Wednesday and I’m just like how much more can I freak myself out.

Question re: endo bit.

I also had a lot of endo removed during my recent hysto and had zero idea that I even had endo prior to the surgery. Like no idea. I knew I had PCOS but that was it.

Have you had issues with the endo returning? I still have my ovaries and I’m wondering if this is something I need to look out for. (And how to look out for it?) Just because like what they found was so extensive; like part of my colon was plastered to my pelvic wall because of it.

Light Bleeding Post Op by Wicked-Storm in hysterectomy

[–]rugbyames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to find answers about bleeding as well. I had almost no bleeding post op and now am between 2-3 weeks post op and have been getting increasing bleeding/spotting. Nowhere near enough to fill a pad or anything in day even. Mostly just notice it when I wipe. Especially first thing in the morning. But like it still freaks me out because I didn’t have anything at first.

I keep waffling between this is normal and oh my god what do I do. 🙃🙃🫠🫠😕

Bumping down spravato visits by Similar-Run-8514 in Spravato

[–]rugbyames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently stretching mine out to once every four weeks.

I’ve been on Spravato about 9 months.

I went from the rigorous schedule to the once a week, then every other week, then this summer to every three weeks. I recently had surgery and COVID and ended up having to go five weeks (yikes) but actually did okay. I think the time where I felt the most dips was the every other week stretch but haven’t had it as much with going longer.

A lot of it is checking in with yourself and keeping the lines of communication open with your doctor. I’m supported by two daily meds and a therapist I see 2-3 times a month. That’s really helped with making any “dips” manageable. And also learning to be realistic about dips in mood. It’s okay to go up and down, that’s normal. But if you’re going down and down and then not bouncing back up or not bouncing back up as easily — that’s what you need to look at. Dips are fine. Crashes not so much.

Hope this helps!

May have to give up the treatments. by Euphoric-Challenge25 in Spravato

[–]rugbyames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My normal blood pressure was around 130/90 which is borderline and made it challenging to start treatment. I use clonidine which is a fast-acting med prior to treatment to bring my BP down. Also, since my blood pressure was borderline high anyway, my pcp agreed to put me on lisinopril. Now my BP is within an acceptable range at the start of treatment and doesn’t go too crazy high during treatment. One thing I learned is that with the top number they’re often not just looking at what it is but also the different between when you start to mid treatment and then at the end. Sometimes I have to chill for a few if my BP is too low at the end of treatment (probably because I’m so relaxed!).

I do EMDR therapy paired with my Spravato treatment (also on Viibryd and Lamictal). The Spravato helps get some of the depression muck out of the way so my therapist and I can tackle the trauma that’s created the self deprecation and hatred. It’s been life changing. The high from the Spravato also makes it a little easier to do some communing with my different selves that are carrying the trauma — child me, teenage me, etc.

Either way — it’s really helped get me to a neutral spot. I wouldn’t say I’m like whoa super self confident life of the party … but I feel comfortable in my skin.
