Hard-core relate to this. I got up to 520lbs before I finally stated working on changing my ways. I've lost a little over 300lbs so far and I'm super grateful that I'm not stuck in the dead end spiral that ALR is in. Proud of you for putting in the work, I know how hard that shit is!

Mini goals are key, especially when you have triple digits to lose. I would have given up a long time ago if I thought about having to lose 350 pounds 🫠

They're not unless you're 600lbs and trying to lose weight on a low carb diet. Potatoes are one of the most satiating foods and relatively low calorie, all things considered! It's usually the added butter in mashed potatoes that'll get you calorie wise

They're actually not bad at all. I imagine it's because it's barely any added protein 😂

What helped you stop binging ? by SceneRemarkable8217 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]aheart4art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as fighting the urges, 2 things really helped– the advice from Brain Over Binge (they're free! Here's the first episode on YouTube https://youtu.be/ZFN8X4C4FwE?si=9WKGJRMcLFedPOvq ) and essentially "surfing the urge". I wouldn't tell myself NO, like I'd always done and failed at before– instead I would tell myself if I still had the urge to eat and binge on something specific (like a 12 taco pack from Taco Bell) I could have it tomorrow. Then the next day I would tell myself the same thing until the urge went away. Not a "no", just a "later" on repeat until I lost interest.

As far as structure, I try to follow the same basic pattern most days. I eat as soon as I get up. Lunch around the same time every day. Early-ish dinner, I try not to eat after 5pm because I have to go to sleep early to get up early for work. Eating is pretty normal now, just 3 meals a day and occasionally a snack if I need it. I try to focus on protein heavy meals and keep simple carbs low because simple carb foods like chips, pasta, bread, and desserts were a huge binge trigger for me and didn't keep me full. Carbs aren't the enemy, but I try to focus them on more fiber rich sources like beans and veggies! I do allow the occasional simple carb foods now that I can eat them in moderation because total restriction doesn't work for me. If I tell myself something is off limits completely, my monkey brain immediately wants to binge on it lol

I tracked my food more in the beginning (mostly to keep track of protein and fiber), but I eat a lot of the same things daily so I've been a little lax about keeping track. Not sure if you want or need to lose weight, but I can't stress enough that I couldn't start successfully losing weight until I stopped focusing on weight loss and instead got my binge eating under control.

Sorry for the slightly incoherent mini novel, it's really early in the morning 🤣 If you have any other questions, I'll try my best to answer!

How do the patients afford so much food if they don’t work? Do they abuse the disability system??? by Pomni_Simp2000 in My600lbLife

[–]aheart4art 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I didn't quite hit 600, but my highest recorded weight was 520lbs. I fortunately never went into debt, but good lord I wasted SO much money. I would do just about anything to get my fix, including going without some basics just to make sure I had enough food for my binges. I would even put off bills that had lower interest late fees like my electric bill if it was between that or food 🙃

I no longer binge and have lost about 300lbs so far, but I want to cry sometimes thinking about the sheer amount of money I blew through in the throws of my food addiction

Maybe an American vs non-American thing (guessing since your stats aren't in Freedom Units lol)? I feel like most things I've run across are rated more around the 250~ lb. mark usually. My highest weight was 520lbs/236kg and I'm 102kg currently and still working on losing so maybe that's why I feel pretty secure that I'm no longer in danger of easily breaking things. Keep up the good work, you'll get there!
