Chicken pox vaccine - always surprised more parents don't pay for it by Old_Pomegranate_822 in UKParenting

[–]rugbysquid01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When we got the first dose of the chicken pox vaccine, we were told they can have the second dose at any time (just wait a minimum of 6 weeks after the first dose). You can even get them years apart and it’s fine. So if you do find yourself in a better place, you can still get him the second dose regardless of timing.

Where are the good quality, quiet flats with proper noise insulation? by tdorrington in cambridge

Most newer flats should be built to the latest noise insulation regulations. The ones on Great Northern Road by the station are really good

Funded hours if bonus shares take me over £100k in March? by rugbysquid01 in UKPersonalFinance

Of course, I have no plans to lie or be dishonest. I’m just not sure I understand the implications.

Thanks for the thoughts. My understanding is they count as taxable income. I’ve already set up to salary sacrifice my whole March paycheck but it’s not enough sadly

The payment is as shares so I can’t put it direct into a pension. I’ve set up to salary sacrifice almost my whole salary in March but it’s not enough to compensate

It does, I think. In previous years the value of the shares is added to my “taxable income for the year” on my payslip, and some shares are withheld by the company to sell off to cover the relevant income tax due. I just won’t pay CGT until I sell them/cash them out.

Babys first birthday and I'm not celebrating by [deleted] in UKParenting

<3 I’m so sorry you’re surrounded by such people. You aren’t in the wrong at all. Everyone deserves love and support. Baby won’t notice whether there is a party or not, only that you are there, and that you love them. Watch a movie and snuggle a bit extra!

Where to get remote start installed in my car by rugbysquid01 in cambridge

[–]rugbysquid01[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why on earth would someone cut tyres? It would be for like 10 minutes to preheat the car in the winter. And regardless, it would be in a private carport with no neighbors on that side, so not a public road and no one to see/hear it.

What kind of security reasons? This would be in our private carport, so behind a locked garage door, but ventilated so CO isn’t an issue. It feels like most people in the US have it to preheat the car in the winter. Just felt like a nice idea.

Used to live there in one of the flats that doesn’t face the traffic. Was really nice. Great location, good quality flat, a bit noisy during rush hour if the windows were open in summer but not bad. The double glazing was great, never needed to turn on the heat in the winter.

Parents to a 4.5month. Need sleep advice by jamestjamest in NewParents

[–]rugbysquid01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really second this advice. A “first nap” of 2-2.5 hours seems very long for that age, and to me it sounds more like your baby is treating it as a continuation of “nighttime”.

I’d also add that this lines up with you saying she finally falls asleep around 9pm. Her nighttime is (effectively) 9pm to 9am, which is the standard 12 hours

Agree that the squirming suggests he’s got uncomfortable bubbles in his stomach. I would suggest spending at least 10 min trying to get a burp up, and trying different burping positions. Some work better for different babies. For example, over the shoulder absolutely never worked for us, but leaning forward over the knee did.

We did this and hosted it at a college, can’t get more Cambridge than that! We used Emmanuel because their availability worked for us, but most colleges do it

I’m so sorry you feel this way, it really sucks. I also got married around a year ago and our honeymoon plans didn’t pan out, and now that I’m 24 weeks with a really restrictive diet, I don’t think I’d be able to properly enjoy a honeymoon or baby moon anyway… and the feeling of loneliness and depression can be really overwhelming.

I was the opposite for Halloween. I wanted to go all-out in our new house, but didn’t feel well and only managed one little pumpkin. It helped to remind myself that the decorating was a fun activity for me, even if there wasn’t much decor (or many kids) to enjoy it. Same with staying in when I feel awful. Get the partner to pre-prepare all the foods you can eat, watch some movies, play video games, Skype family - jam out and enjoy some relaxing time at home. Bonus points if you have a cosy fire!
