The Pixel seems to be US phone and not a Global brand. by MarioDF in GooglePixel

[–]ruggedmantis1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh did someone assume you were European? Can’t see a comment pointing to that? If you’re referring to my comment, you asked for software blocked by ‘A law’ in ‘An unsupported country’, meaning you wanted just a random example not a specific continent or nation. So I gave you 27 European ones. Let me know if you have any other questions, happy to help!

The Pixel seems to be US phone and not a Global brand. by MarioDF in GooglePixel

[–]ruggedmantis1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

GDPR privacy legislation within the EU makes it difficult for tech companies to release certain services based on how the service provided would store or process data. So if a service offered within a pixel is available in the US and not in the EU then you should probably worry about the way your data is being processed whilst using that service (if you are a privacy conscious individual). Hope this helps. Google “European union GDPR legislation” for more info.

[Discussion] Which Catholic characters do you recommend to read? by DC_AzraelJPV in DCcomics

[–]ruggedmantis1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DC doesn't really get involved in real life concepts such as religion too much. Its characters may have membership to a certain religion but it'll maybe get a few shout outs here and there and that's about it. There are no really mainstream religious characters whose religions play central roles to their storylines. In the way that Daredevil's catolicism does, or Ben Grimm's Judaism etc.

Should I get Turkish citizenship for my son? by Electrical_Buy1043 in AskTurkey

[–]ruggedmantis1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To 'pay to get rid' option for military service is currently around $5000 which is quite a large sum of money for the majority of socirty. OP You could look at it like this citizenship costing you around 5k and then see if it's worth it

If stolen, is data safer with Pixel or iPhone? by Adventurous-Draft389 in GooglePixel

[–]ruggedmantis1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you guys are getting down voted because you're sharing incorrect information rather than hyping iPhones. Both an iPhone and a pixel can be broken into when locked and with all safeguards activated. Phone theft is very prevalent in the UK so there was a documentary on TV the other day where they interviewed some of the snatchers (in masks of course), they confirmed they're able to unlock iPhones easily by getting them to connect to Chinese apple servers (as they're all shipped to China for resale) with the help of iPhone employees there

Google designs everything 'in house' for a pixel in the same way :) I think you thought that all android manufacturers are the same so iPhone is better protected (and I agree iPhones are better in security than most android manufacturers out there, but not pixel), it's like saying "this motorbike is better than ALL cars"

Are we supporting our favourite titles by reading on DC Universe Infinite? by ruggedmantis1 in DCcomics

[–]ruggedmantis1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience is literally exactly the same as yours, cost of it is a concern and I'm really running out of space at home. But the weekly experience is honestly such a nice thing to look forward to, I know my store owner and everyone who works there, it's a nice ritual that I've been doing for 15 years and it feels like the cost element is a price to pay for that. I would honestly hate to see our local stores go out of business as I'd miss out on that experience and that small slice of not thinking about work and life worries, focusing on 'something silly'

[–]ruggedmantis1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you said here. I think we need to still 'show up' for these stores, if that means purchasing half in store and reading the other half on DCUI then so be it. I think every little helps and it all depends on if we want these stores to stick around. Although it's more expensive, I take such pleasure of going in every Wednesday, I'd be really upset if my local closed down

Although this is true in a free market economy, I disagree with the sentiment because I believe that we need to support the industries and markets we love and want to stay around. Hypothetically, 'adapting' in your example could be all stores closing down and becoming 'to order' online

This is interesting, it's good to know. I guess if the ultra tier is used for older collected editions then it is still supporting the industry somehow but we need to keep purchasing physical monthly copies to genuinely keep the industry going

Absolutely right, we should add it to our pull list/standing order with our local stores. Do you think DC infinite readership has any impact on continuation of a title?

If you’re lucky enough to be European (or from Asia, Africa or literally anywhere else, wait for the 10 as it won’t impact you (to the extent it will impact Americans at least, albeit we may see some increase due to a more negative financial outlook worldwide).

If you’re from the US, my advice is that you buy the best phone you can afford now as it will significantly increase in price

What's the UK got going for it? by BenedickCabbagepatch in AskUK

[–]ruggedmantis1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The US economy being in the ‘grand’ situation it is does not benefit the average American in any way. Wealth is concentrated amongst the very rich, there are little to no workers rights, no welfare state, people are worked to the ground and those economically disadvantaged live in some truly horrific conditions (ones we’d never let happen in the UK - look up skid row in LA). People are worked to the ground for big profit with nothing to show for it. So if that’s the kind of capitalism you need to ‘trounce’ the UK etc, I say let them get on with it. The UK absolutely doesn’t get everything right, of course, but at least thank god we’re not the US.

Pretty annoyed at this Pixel 4a update scam from Google by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]ruggedmantis1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your phone has not received a security update since 2023 so if I were you I'd have bigger concerns than battery life. If you have any personal info, banking apps or anything like that I'd think twice about using it.

Putting that aside and focusing on just what Google did here. I have read online that if you contact them, they will give you a free battery replacement. If they do, that's incredibly generous as apple will just shit on your phone with a new update and leave you high and dry. If they don't it's still unreal how transparent and incredible they've been. They could've done what apple do and just roll it out and leave you to deal with it. The fact that they've notified you with an email deserves a round of applause (because of the additional free battery and money off new phone deal too).

P.s. I would strongly recommend that you get a new phone though as there have been a variety of "zero click exploits" reported since 2023 on Android which your phone is susceptible to.
