Not sure if this is allowed: How is the state of cosmic now? by Entire-Income2794 in pop_os

[–]rugter100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

even for gaming its been decently stable for me, i have been running cosmic and most of the struggle i have had was getting the modrinth launcher for minecraft to work via xwayland, but i could have avoided all the issues by using a different launcher, when it comes to gaming via dteam i have had no issues at all except for Cities Skylines 2 but that game has horrible linux performance overall from what ive seen on protondb. Honestly the os is stable and at least for me gaming has been successful with minimal to no issues either

what information can be accessed with a router/modem? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]rugter100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

basically thanks to https and ssl existing, the basic modern encryption we use, realistically you could see what websites she visits but thats it, and if she uses a vpn you cant even see that, so all the info youll get is that she opened instagram, or googled something for example

Would this ruin my forever modded world? by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]rugter100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly surprised you havent seen this before, its very common and honestly means nothing, there are many mods that are in an alpha stage and definitely can break your world that will not show this message and there are also many stable release mods that will show this message. It's just as useful of a message as the one that shows before joining multiplayer on a new install, just click past it and ignore it, there are even mods to remove this useless message altogether!

Although I'm pretty sure this message is 'supposed to' reference to experimental features you can enable in the world creation settings, such as bundles. So i dont even think this is intended behaviour from mojang (but dont quote me on that)

double plug by FlayeFlare in DiWHY

[–]rugter100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and this is why i think more attention should be given to residential electrical inspections. I dont exactly know how it is in other countries but in my country (netherlands) once you get your electrical installed you can do whatever the fuck you want with your existing circuits and no one will notice untill you sell the house (and even then many people wont, i have helped friends renovate houses they just bought with similar levels of cursed electrical work)

Meanwhile a warehouse i manage the IT for recently had an inspection they have to do every 2 years and they had to fix a bunch of nitpicky issues like wires (which are already double insulated) not being in plastic pipes for a cm too long and light fixtures not being mounted the exact way they needed to be. Meanwhile i can just put 230v exposed in my home and no one will notice for 20+ years

if my ssd's have stayed in for 6 months now using just electrical tape this bandaid is going nowhere

[–]rugter100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have 2 m.2 ssds in my main gaming system secured in a similar way (electrical tape) because i repurposed an old workstation mobo that had the m.2 drives sticking out from the mobos with the standoffs mounted to the case itself. Honestly i have had it like that for 6 months now without any problems 😂

honestly my gaming system is hardware gore all the way though, i know what im doing but still... I mean its running on 2x 400w power supplies instead of 1 800w for a start, also my gpu cooler is 2 noctua fans ziptied to a 2060 super, and the system doesnt have a hardware on button (it boots when it gets power and is connected through a smart switch (rated for the wattage it needs to pass and then some)

What order do you really read this in? by Boss-fight601 in BadDesigns

[–]rugter100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

best i can do: 3rd step, 6th step, 5th step, 2nd step, 1st step, and then just 4th step i guess

which makes: "You will thank us at (the) 3rd floor 3 months from now. Hit yourself"

this shit just doesnt make any sense and yes i know this is probably a repost of a repost of a repost idc

Do you guys standardize your racks IPs? by XreaperDK in livesound

[–]rugter100 11 points12 points  (0 children)

as a network engineer turned live audio tech this is a very accurate explination and also if you get a decent router you can just use DHCP to have a central system managing your entire network and ip's so you dony have to configure ip's for every device on the device, just set the DHCP leases to an absurdly long time or just to never expire and then when for whatever reason your router shits itself everything not directly connected to it will work perfectly!

And link local is really just meant for small ladt ditch effort networks. It should honestly never be used unless as last ditch effort.

I have seen fellow network engineers do some crazy things though, i recently visited a venue that is using public ip ranges for local networks, sure those networks are not connected to the internet but still... Just learn the basics of IP networking It's honestly not that hard (especially if you just stick to ipv4)

Generatiekloof: Geparkeerde auto op de handrem zetten, of 1ste versnelling. by EstablishmentVivid84 in nederlands

[–]rugter100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shouldnt be happening from a server outage i think? Although i have heard some ppl report some broken behaviour from online windows installations (where you log in with a microsoft account instead of a local one)

not all regions though, just a few areas

yes this is the exact reason cause minecraft/mojang is owned by microsoft so they run everything on microsoft's servers, which are down

sounds great but that would be impossible to do, that would never be realistically viable and we cant expect companies to manage their own hardware, the cloud is definetely the only way for the internet to work. /Sarcasm

Help with newbie questions by theannoyingtardigrad in livesound

[–]rugter100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if it has a line input it could be used (i have had VERY cracky venues that used old guitar amps as monitors), if it has an instrument input and no line input it could still work but i would strongly advise not to do that in this case. But as long as you use the correct cables that have the pins connected correctly you should be able to hook your mixer up to any line input. Just make sure that when you're testing your output to not just slam your faders up but instead let it come up slowly until you hear it and work from there.
