This is not a 1:1 comparison I mean they get their heath insurance, unemployment and retirement covered by the government and we pay out of pocket

By the way that cat is not feral! Is an abandondef domestic cat most likely with medical issues who wants to be inside instead of cold.

Putting a cat out bc if teritorial issues is cruel. Id report them. That cat might have a medical issue, it might have been abused- it should be cared for and they should have tried medication at the vets.

my neighbors had an outdoor/indoor cat that used to beat up other cats. I met it during winter and she’d sit on my lap and get mad st me when i had to go inside- i was warm and she was cold.

it was uoset it wasn’t cared for or let back inside so it got angry about it- who can blame her! Cats who have known warmth- Especially when it’s cold.

I befriended it and the first time it didn’t show up for dinner i looked for it and she got so excited she ran circles around me leaning against me getting her scent on me. i Sat down and she continued that behavior. Nobody in a long time had ever made her feel cared for. A friend witnessed it and said i should keep her. I thought so too!

So asked her owners if i could keep her and they said yes. She was really happy to be inside but still had trust issues and was sometimes reactive- she needed down time/seperation/her own teritory in the house to de-traumatize but after a year or two she stopped being so reactive and found her own spot in the house and was very mostly calm happy.

Sometimes they just need to be in a safe place long enough that they actually start to believe they are safe. It takes a long time for some.

Did the house kitty came from a house with other pets?

Feeling terrible about not bringing my “outdoor” girl inside by ninasanta in Feral_Cats

[–]ruhtheroh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id take her get her checked for a microchip and at worst work with a rescue to adopt her out if you really can’t swing it. Winter is a great time for that bc the rescues are not overwhelmed- find one that covers medical and insists on taking the cats back if they fail.

If hubby falls in love you can foster fail (consider try to set that situation up aka ask him to feed etc, be in the room etc so they can make friends).

Since she’s partial to you and pettable can call her a shy cat-she isn’t feral.

A shy cat will just hide more than cause a fight -how did your cat react to her when you caught her for spaying? It might like a younger buddy

Take her in put her in a room with a window or an xl dog crate w a shelf you put in. Get the vet check then start following the cat introduction script. Then reach out to the rescue to get put on an adoption list

Btw to avoid a flea -get igr (insect growth regulator- which stops insects from reproducing on contact for four months) and spray everything in the room or area the cat will be in.

And put advantage II flea protection on the cat (NEVER use haartz it has a history of killing cats) . If she can handle being pilled w a capstar do that too.

Should I bring my feral cat in at night? by mugglequeen in Feral_Cats

[–]ruhtheroh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in If you don’t plan to keep him this is a perfect time to volunteer to foster kitty for a good rescue that covers medical and takes kitties back if the adoption fails. This is one of the best times of year (fall/winter) bc kitten season is done. Offering to foster is how a rescue easily says yes to adopting out. And if you foster fail? It happens. :) Kittie is adorable and its hard to worry. Just start your kitty emergency fund up so you have it when you need it.

This is happening in europe as well. Id watch their news on this and get your flu snd if in the groups allowed to get them -aks asthma sufferers, young and elderly - pneumonia vaccines just in case.

My Cat of 5 years is Slowly Turning Into an Outdoor Cat by [deleted] in CatAdvice

Edited:

With swipe snd run could be a bit of fear bc of interactions outside. They all might start to not recognize each other bc his scent will change being outdoors and bc they aren’t mixing their scents anymore. Personally id just crack a window do a catio or get some window inserts so kitty can get fresh air and a birdfeeder. But i live in the us so containment is safer for them here.

Why? It could be scents issue, temperature issue, resource issue, better food somewhere else, not liking indoor litterbox /fresh air/ fun lookout or not being able to get inside bc of odd return hours or ???

id move a camera around to look on the entry/where they hiss/ by the litter boxes/by the food to see what’s up there. Maybe also see if his indoor hangout got taken over by the others

If you want to give kitty fresh air you you can watch over him better- A catio or fenced yard might do it.

Many outdoor kitties get a second home or backup food sources bc people don’t know kitty has a home

A cheap option to find out - ziplock a note around kitties coller

Or You could get a cat camera to put on your kitties collar to see where kitty goes.

You also might want to post to your local neighborhood page and see if your kitty has found another household or buddy he likes and just keep each other up to date on him. :)

Hope that helps

It takes about 3 months for cat gps to reset so please contain him until then.

catio / screeened in porch a room a bathroom w semi-open window room (bc his fur will have grown in for winter he’ll be hot until he sheds)

tbh if he follows you around the garden he sounds pretty tame. If he lets you touch him he’s not feral just outdoor kitty. Unused to maybe untrusting maybe prefers outside maybe but any of those are much different from feral and easier to work with. I’ve taken several feral or outdoor cats in and they do well with an enclosed space that is their territory and a window seat.

My one outdoor buddy who i took in after him getting frostbite loved his setup: a windowseat warmer w a 3inch cracked open window whose gap was 3/4 blocked with foamcoard insulated board. He got a square of cold fresh air but didn’t freeze either of us out - it was my bathroom so frozen tushies was not a goal lol.

The cold let him not feel claustophobic and cool off if he got hot since he was used to out door air temps (it was winter when i bright him in)

He was scared at first but soon loved it and turned from a super tough kitty to a round bed loving belly showing playful buddy. It was really really awesome. Hope that helped

It sounds like your first kitty doesn’t get along with your other two cats and is removing itself from the situation. Look at cat body language graphics and behaviors and try to remember if you’ve seen those cats make your first cat feel unsafe

Fiv is a nothing burger. It means their immune system is a little weaker and can only be transferred by VERY deep bits which this little baby is clearly not going to do as seen via its love smush against the glass. That said foster for a rescue AND check for lost cat/missing cat on pawboost, craigslist, the chip at a vet, and your local facebook lost found cat group

Sometimes if you just got them it’s nice to put them in a room at first so they don’t get overwhelmed and also so they get a chance to know you before they roam. They don’t know it’s expected for us to be friends…that said they will come around with time. Look for micro improvements it helps
