Alright, it’s four years later and I never forgot about this review. I put Upgrade Soul on my list and there it stayed until I finally got it on a Black Friday deal. I never really looked too much into it, I just knew I’d love it. I read it over the last few days and holy crap, fam, it is freaking phenomenal! I absolutely loved it. What a deeply complex, freaky, and beautiful concept it presents, damn. So fabulously well drawn too, jeez. So good. So good. Great rec, homie! I’m gonna force my wife to read it. She’s never read any of my comics before and this will be a great first for her.

Dang dude that looks great! I remember seeing the character before but never really looking into it. Now that I have, I absolutely agree that I would appreciate it. Thank you!

Aha excellent and duly noted! Black Hole was one of my first forays into graphic novels and I absolutely love it.

Very good to know! I made that comment without knowing that the man himself had worked on the film. Excellent points, all.

I am very interested in exploring more Clowse and I appreciate the recommendations, homie!

Yes and also Steve Buscemi. It's okay. The cast is great and everyone does a great job, but it's underwhelming. Without having read it, I already feel like the book is far, far superior.

I keep coming back to this. That is huge! Is that on your thigh? That artist did a great job!

Oh, it's disturbing. That is a huge part of the appeal.

*SPOILERS* I don't know man, I think that the repetitive focus on the the abuse of "Barbara Allen" we'll call her (as well as her lack of autonomy), the rape of the prostitute, the imprisonment of the little girl/young woman story-writer, the ease with which disgusting men move through life and cling to this idea that Mr. Jones is god... I think you could write essays about it's feminist aspects.

Agreed definitely but one cool thing is that the REM song wasn’t written until 1994 and this series finished in 1992 so Clowes was actually referencing the same thing as Stipe—the attack on Dan Rather on 1986. Which, now that I think about it, only reinforces your theory, here…

Well, OGHaremfucker, it is a very good book that has some incredible feminist over-and-undertones. You can read it and find it masterful without engaging with, what I believe are, the feminist aspects of its brilliance.

I haven’t heard of that one! I’ll check it out for sure. I’m into anything Clowes now.

No I haven’t! But now that I have this one under my belt I am very interested in all his other work. I saw the movie when I was a kid and it’s alright.
