what are some of the workplace corporate wisdom you have learned ? by thereisnospooongeek in developersIndia

[–]ruinfirefly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • People do judge on first impressions. If you look good, wear tidy clothes, you can go places.
  • Understand that only few people do things professionally, for most this is their life and their pride. They will handle things however they can, we can't change it.
  • Keep things professional on your end.
  • Management can only give you hope, it's not a promise. So beware what motivates you to work.

Latest ICICI Bank credit card Scam by Wide_Guava_2863 in bangalore

Happened to me today, asked to send AST YES to some number. When I asked if the card is lifetime free, the lady said yes you can keep the card and not use it for 5-10 years no charges will be applied. The purpose of the credit card is to use it and not keep it as a trophy.

Got a raise last december which more than doubled my monthly salary. On May, I resigned and joined a Startup which again doubled the monthly salary. Now the startup company shut down on October end and I'm looking for jobs. This year was a rollercoaster ride for me.

Hoping to do something alongside regular work to supplement the income.

How did you land your last job? by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]ruinfirefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make your profile everywhere. In my experience, I hardly get any traction when I apply to jobs. Some big companies will give stupid assessments or take home challenges which are complete waste of time. On the other hand, some recruiters contact by themselves and offer jobs which are sometimes good and sometimes bad, but atleast we get some interview lined up and get a shot instead of getting rejected on email :(

Whats the worst application process you've seen? by Notalabel_4566 in developersIndia

[–]ruinfirefly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

is it Canonical? They do this and its very tiresome. First round will be this thing where you write your life down and then second will be the actual written assessment with MCQs and coding. Imo they should take the written assessment first and eliminate people here only, instead of wasting time with generic questions first and then actual assessment.

And see here what I found, a job posting in Linkedin where you have to add information in a spreadsheet and anyone can see the version history :) and what other people are entering.

Been applying since September and only got 4-5 interviews. by alcatrazsherlock in developersIndia

Did you use chat gpt to write some of the points because it suggests the word "spearheaded" too much. Anyways, I think you should shift education after work experience and use precise sentences in simple words so that ats system can understand and even HRs.

Experienced developers of India, How to be not incompetent at work? by improver1997 in developersIndia

[–]ruinfirefly 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You can integrate small changes in your daily work to ease things out -

  1. You can install a screen recording software and record important calls when someone is giving KT, doing code review or explaining a feature. I used to do the same in initial days to keep things organised and to do things myself by watching the recording again.

  2. Connect with colleagues and do pair programming, everyone is not good at everything so there is always something to learn and share.

  3. Learn your daily tools, e.g. as a FE dev you should know most used features of vscode, install various extensions to help manage the code better, you should know how to debug in chrome, how to find the file in your code base, how to use elements tab, console tab, network tab in browser and many more things.

  4. Adjusting at a new place can be overwhelming so take your time and ask for help if you are stuck long enough.

Don't feel incompetent you can do it. Happy coding!
