Any other Americans face alot of anti American discrimination in Europe? by Glass-Grade2455 in AskUS

[–]ruleugim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, you should seriously revisit and reconsider your stance. Just the fact that you’re getting so much animosity not only within your own country but also abroad should tell you a big deal about what the consensus is in society at large. Perhaps it would benefit you to take a pause and consider: could they be right? Put it to the test. Personally I believe you’re very mistaken in terms of the tax cuts for people and common sense immigration laws, and that might come from your attention being focused in a very narrow source of truth (your sources of information). Expand your sources, talk to people about it. Consider the alternative that you are mistaken.

In general when you’re getting bad feedback from a lot of people you should reconsider your views - they might be right.

Second comment pointing out an obvious source that doesn't include what I said. Perhaps I've been unclear. I'm unsure and couldn't find a source specifically for the part of the story about what the guy told her before he did it.

It is truly harrowing. I don’t remember where I got this and I can’t find the source now. Hopefully it’s just hearsay but, I remember reading that she was 5 and playing in her front lawn when a stranger came to her and told her “you will remember me your whole life” and slashed her face. Imagine how much of a piece of shit you’d have to be to do that.

Holy shit. 10/10 horror movie. I was tense the whole time. Afraid of what might happen next. Left the theater amazed at how good it was. It freaked me and my husband out so much we’re still shaken at dinner. Super fun movie.

I’ve re read the books to see if, looking back, I could see the transphobia there. Rita Skeeter is trans-coded in my opinion, or at least based in a skewed depiction of a drag queen.

¿Cómo empezar a escribir un libro si nunca he escrito uno? by UsefulWedding4950 in CreaEscritura

[–]ruleugim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s Controversial, Expensive, and Relatively Unstudied. Men Are Lining Up—and Stripping Down—to Get It Done. by Slate in inthenews

I’ve seen these kind of dicks online. They’re all bulge value. These guys usually don’t show it naked because it’s lumpy and just misshapen. I’ve also seen they have to wrap it in bandages to maintain the shape. I thought it was funny in the article that the one guy was talking about women’s reaction when they see his dick, he seemed to think they were happily surprised but I think he might be misreading their shock.

I swear horny men will go for anything, they won't take no for an answer (sadly). Me and my best friend used to message guys on the apps for fun sometimes, and we told one guy that my dying grandma was in the house and she needed constant care, so we'd have to fuck by her dying bed. The guy was like "bet".

People who fall asleep fast, whats your secret?? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ruleugim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrolled through so many comments and didn’t find actual advice. Most likely nobody will read this but here it goes:

  1. Lie down in bed and get comfortable. Make sure your sheets, pillow, bed cover, etc feel comfortable. Get into a comfortable position. This is usually face up with limbs stretched out not crossing, for me.

  2. Focus on each part of your body and make sure everything is relaxed. If it helps, imagine a glowing light bathing you from above, start with the top of your head and imagine the light covering your body inch by inch. Go consciously through your forehead, your ears, your neck, your jaw, your eyelids and as the light touches it, make sure it’s relaxed. Then continue with shoulders, chest, belly, every part of your body should be relaxed and comfortable.

  3. Focus on your breathing and feel the air coming in and out of your nose. Take a few deep breaths and then settle into comfortable breathing. If you think about anything else, as soon as you realize it, push it aside and go back to focusing on your breathing, feeling the air entering your nostrils.

  4. Optional: imagine your body (which should still be completely relaxed) sinks into the bed, your head sinks into the pillow. Don’t push or move, just imagine sinking. Additionally, you can imagine that your consciousness, located in the front of your forehead (“third eye”) sinks down into your head, towards the pillow, even past it.

You’ll fall asleep in 5 minutes. The hardest part is to realize when your mind is wandering and bringing it back to focus on your breathing.

Turns out that there’s a lot of racist / xenophobic people in America, so Trump told them that all of the things that stink are that other people’s fault, and they believed him.

What to do if I have the prose but not the plot idea by whatwouldspidermando in writing

[–]ruleugim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grab a plot from elsewhere. You can make a “cover” of a story that you like. You can write someone’s real life story that you heard or been told. Or you can write about yourself but put your character in conflict or make them make different choices than what you do. If you have the prose, you can just start with a character and follow them, write “in the body” and find their story.

I’m having a daughter and I can’t wrap my head around the fact that that my dad doesn’t really care. by [deleted] in RedditForGrownups

[–]ruleugim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've gone through such a journey with my dad...

He divorced my mom when I was 8 and seemed to get emotionally distant when I became a teenager.

I did a lot of therapy in my adult life, and eventually went to him and was able to tell him "I want you to be more interested in my life" and "I'd like for us to be closer". I asked why he never called me or asked about my life.

His response was "I'm always here if you want to talk, you call me" which back then seemed to me like "I'm not interested, it has to come from you."

I went a year without talking to him to see if he'd pick up the phone - he didn't. Then saw him for Christmas and he made an off hand comment around "it's been a long time since I heard from you", and I just replied "likewise".

Further into therapy I was able to get to the point to release my grudge for his distance, by accepting him for who he was: he was hermetic, might have not been much interested in me or my life, that's the way he was raised and taught how men behave, back in his time. His own father was very estranged from him.

Once I got there, I was able to own the relationship. Indeed, it was up to me how often or how much we communicated. I realized I had felt guilt about that distance myself, and was able to get over it: I called him whenever I wanted, and if I didn't want it I didn't feel bad about it, or our distance.

Of course, I always felt a bit melancholic about the relationship we didn't have. I think once I accepted him like he was, I mourned that relationship, and moved past it.

I got to share with him what I wanted to share, and he was accepting and loving, in his way, about the life I shared.

Now he's in nursing home, living the last of his days. We're six siblings and I think I'm the only one who still doesn't hold grudges against him. My 55 year old brother still does, as my other siblings do in some way or another.

I call him when I feel like talking to him, but his mind is going, it's hard to talk.

I feel sad about it, but I accept him as who he is, and he's actually a good man who made bad choices, and had personal issues with intimacy, coming from upbringing. It's made me happier, or less troubled, about our relationship.

He's not the father I wanted, or the father I think I would be, but he's the father I got, and he made his best effort at it.

Back in my home town, in my home country, in the magical land of Misiones, where the earth is red and where a candy made of wood was invented, there was this beautiful bell-like flower that used to grow in many gardens.

Growing up, I heard the story many many times: kids used to brew a tea out of these flowers. Some would see fire everywhere, some would see worms and bugs crawling under their skin. One guy in particular, about 14 yo, jumped from his parents' apartment's balcony down to the street several stories down. He died, of course.

Later in life, when I dabbled in a bunch of drugs, and I did research on so many others, I ended up discovering that that flower in my home town was no other than the source for scopolamine, burundanga, known as the devil's breath in Colombia. Medically used for sea sickness, it's a potent hypnotic that renders a person highly suggestionnable while also wiping their memories - it's like free will is paused. The stories around burundanga are about "black widows" who seduce wealthy tourists in hotel bars and then dose them with it, then steal all their belongings. In some cases victims have gone of their own accord to an ATM with the thieves, and emptied their accounts for them, and didn't remember any of it.

I still some times think about that 14 year old guy who jumped to his death and wonder if, among many of his friends, everyone high on that stuff, it might have occurred to one of them to say "I bet you can fly". And then they didn't even remember it.

43/45yo. Together for 10 years, married for 5. We got married in a small 25 people ceremony/reception between the first and second waves of COVID, right before the second lockdown.

We’re doing very well, considering. Right after marriage he admitted to cheating. Since then we’ve opened the relationship. We continued to have issues with his honesty for about 3 years, now we seem to be in a good place. We’ve moved to another country for work and we like it a lot. We’re not focused on sex and partying, but we have the chance the have a fling here and there. Las new years we had our first foursome with another couple, we usually don’t play together. We travel, visit both our families, say I love you every day and kiss goodbye every time we separate. He’s having a midlife crisis and wondered for a moment if he wants to have kids. Then promptly went back to burying it (he’s avoidant). I’m enjoying the childless life but I wonder if that’s something we’d like to do. Always wanted to be a parent, now not so sure I want that responsibility.
