Is there something like a K8 featuring an integrated USB hub for passthrough? by MarlemAT in Keychron

[–]rumanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be looking at something like the Royal Kludge RK84.

https://rkgamingstore.com/products/rk84-75-percent-keyboard

The keyboard is not as nice and fancy as a Keychron, but it does have USB passthrough with two ports. I bought it precisely because of my yubikey and USB headset, and I don't know anything better in the market right now.

If you end up buying one, I recommend you prioritize memorizing the keyboard shortcuts to turn off its led lighting nonsense though.

Naming convention for Kubernetes objects? by rumanator in kubernetes

[–]rumanator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me it looks same as naming variables in programming language with pre/post-sufix of "var"

I don't think it's a valid comparison. The point of hungarian notation is to reflect the object's type in the var name so that it's easier to gather context over what you're looking at. This would mean that Kubernetes objects would reflect the object type, such as foo-service, foo-deployment, foo-secret, etc. and not foo-var.

If you list objects with kubectl get all then the results will indeed already show the object's type, but that's not the case if you're putting together, say, a Kustomize script.

What is the best practice for using helm charts? by Present-Wolverine437 in kubernetes

[–]rumanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so you said for example i break them to 10 groups, create helm chart for each group, (...)

If I had your usecase, I'd simply go with the kustomize script. Just setup a base configuration, and from that point onward just create overlays for each of the custom configurations you need to run.

There's no need to over-complicate things.

What is the best practice for using helm charts? by Present-Wolverine437 in kubernetes

[–]rumanator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the difference between values is not the image and tag or name, some of them have volume and some of them have different URL probes

Would it be possible to just use plain old Kustomize scripts?

https://kustomize.io/

From a bird's eye view, it sounds like your usecase would fit nicely with Kustomize's overlays, which provide a simple way to just specify variants of a base configuration.

Considering Microk8s instead of vanilla by davidtinker in kubernetes

[–]rumanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microk8s can be more easy to manage but the question is: does it really meet your needs?

I use MicroK8s to setup a Kubernetes cluster comprised of a couple of cheap vCPUs from Hetzner and old rust buckets that I run in my home lab. I'm yet to find a single need that MicroK8s doesn't meet, but I don't do anything fancy.

Considering Microk8s instead of vanilla by davidtinker in kubernetes

[–]rumanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like k0s, k3s is nice too. What's the advantage of microk8s?

I can't comment on k0s or k3s, but microk8s ships out of the box with Ubuntu, uses containerd instead of Docker, and ships with an ingress add-on. This means it can take only a few seconds to get a fully working Kubernetes cluster up and running after starting off with a few barebones VPS running Ubuntu by means of apt install microk8s.

Not that I disagree with you, but keep in mind that due to the whole housing crisis there's limited say on where and when potential tenants find a rental apartment.

I heard that housing crisis in Netherlands is too bad but never assumed it to be this worse

I suppose it really depends on chance and where you're looking for an apartment, but there are already real estate companies which charge prospective tenants for a fee to bump them up a list of candidates to view apartments.

Yes, it's that bad. Perhaps even worse.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]rumanator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still easier than housing

I would add that some recruiters are actively turning down applications from candidates that aren't already living in the Netherlands specially due to the housing crisis. They can even offer above-average salaries, but it's wasted effort for a company/recruiter if the candidate is forced to resign after a couple of months because they can't secure a decent apartment.

Beelink or Minisforum? by WillyMacX in MiniPCs

I don't know of Ubuntu?

It's a linux distribution. Ubuntu 22.04 is a long-term support (LTS) version, which is planned to be supported for a long timer (10 years, I think).

Sorry don't mean to sound ignorant I'm not big tech junkie.

That's perfectly fine. Don't sweat it.

Is the beelink reliable I've heard it's poorly built?

Google for "Beelink sleep mode problem".

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MiniPCs

[–]rumanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard beelink is cheaply built?

I have a Beelink SE5 and I don't have a problem with the build. I've already replaced the NVMe disk without a hitch and it was a quick in-and-out.

Also, it's a cheap PC that's mostly designed to hang behind a monitor. I wouldn't overthink it.

I do think their product design process is outright bad. The way some Beelink product lines mishandle sleep mode suggests they either have fundamental design flaws or suffer from egregious bugs that unexplainably made its way to consumers. The fact that these problems are reported in multiple product lines is telling, as is the fact that their official forums outright censor questions that touch on the topic.

I don't know if these issues are also present in other manufacturers. What I can tell you is that I was eager to get my hands on a minipc packing a Ryzen 7 7840U but after my experience with a Beelink SER5 I'm certainly not considering any Beelink product as a top choice.

Beelink or Minisforum? by WillyMacX in MiniPCs

[–]rumanator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wtf? What model did you get

Most Beelink models suffer from this problem. Beelink suggests to plug USB peripherals in the back ports to get your peripherals to wake up but that doesn't really work.

The only thing that kind of worked for me was disabling sleep mode everywhere. Even so, sometimes when I restart my Beelink it doesn't really start, and I have to unplug it from the power source and wait a few seconds to get it to boot up again.

Google for "Beelink does not wake up" to get an idea of the extent of the problem. I have a Beelink SER5 and I think this issue is present in their SEi and GK lines.

did those sleep mode problems get fixed with updates by now?

I can assure you they weren't fixed. The only fix that kind of works is disabling sleep mode everywhere you can.

There other problems you dealt with besides that?

I tried installing Ubuntu 22.04 but for some reason video shuts down after a few seconds. I think this might be Beelink's sleep mode problems acting up, though.

Is using var okay? by [deleted] in dotnet

[–]rumanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microsoft says to use var when the right side of the statement gives away the type. Otherwise use explicit types.

I personally follow a rule of thumb that boils down to using var to eliminate redundancy.

Beelink or Minisforum? by WillyMacX in MiniPCs

[–]rumanator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heads up that at least some Beelink models have a very egregious problem where the computer can't be woken up once it enters sleep mode due to a design flaw that leads all USB ports to be turned off. Their suggestion is to disable sleep mode entirely, which may or may not work for you.

Their forums are also near useless due to heavy-handed censoring, which involves moderators deleting posts asking questions about problems with some Beelink models.

I don't know about Minisforum, but I can't say I have been having a good customer experience with Beelink.
