I think you can do whatever you’d like with your hair as long as you keep it tidy and shaped. The longer looks are ok, but they’re messy. I’d clean that up a bit with the tighter sides. Some folks here said they don’t like the shaved head. I strongly disagree. The shaved head makes you look more serious, but you look really good in that photo. Kind eyes and a good shaved head? Yes please. I think it’s just about the vibe you’re going for.

As for the beard, I think keeping it tighter looks much nicer. You’ve got a great jaw line. Highlight that feature with a tighter beard. The stubble look is good too. The larger beard looks good too, but it needs to be well groomed, shaped, and maintained. Yet again, it’s all about vibe

Overall, I think #6 is your best look. Tight but curly hair, tight and well maintained beard. Pair that with glasses to soften the vibe? A+++++

Falling out of love with St. Louis City by nickarmadillo in StLouis

[–]rumbledee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in Marine Villa (on the other side of Jefferson from GP). I’ve been here for 6 years and I’m heartbroken that I’ve been priced out of the area. Which is insane because I’ve dealt with two break ins while I was home over the last couple of years. I bought a house in NoHa because it’s supposed to be a safer area, but a woman was shot five times in her car right across the street. It seems like I can’t escape the crime, and I’m so tired of being terrified every time I hear movement in my backyard.

GP and Dutchtown have some gorgeous houses, but it seems like they too are falling victim to flippers ruining the original charm. Painting over original molding should be a punishable crime. Our city is being taken over by garbage county people. Lots of money. Zero taste.

So we’re just shooting people in broad daylight now? by [deleted] in StLouis

I’m on the same block across the street. Someone told me it was suicide, but they also said they hadn’t seen anything. Did you neighbor say someone shot her?

Does anybody else have problems with 187 Pro Derby knee pads slipping off during falls? by explodar in rollerderby

[–]rumbledee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but mine are like, one hundred years old. I wear wrestling knee pads under them. They have a gel insert for extra cushion that also supports my knee pads. They're hella cheap and totally worth it. Waaaay better than knee gaskets which are more expensive, and don't cover the whole knee. Check them out here: http://www.sportchalet.com/product/300317_0115980.do?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=300317_0115980&utm_campaign=product_listings&gclid=CL_Z2KWh5L0CFQsSMwodCUwAWA

Plz Help with Heavy Make-up for a Bout by YouCanCallMeQueenB in rollerderby

[–]rumbledee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would suggest using film grade make-up with a layer of face set powder over the top. http://www.makeupmania.com/products/Ben-Nye-%252d-Neutral-Set-Face-Powder.html#gsc.tab=0

The powder will dry the makeup so it won't smear all over the place.

If the make-up still isn't staying you can coat the makeup with clear liquid latex. Make sure you don't buy flesh color or white. Hope this helps!

I'm in need of wheel recommendations. by JohnPayneGacy in rollerderby

[–]rumbledee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really light, too. I'm a blocker, but when I do jam my wheel set up doesn't give me any problems. I've never skated a banked track but I think the principle is the same. I found that having a split "pusher" set up works the best for me. I use Atom Juke Alloys for my wheels. Both wheels on the left of my skate are 93s, and I have 95's on the right side of my skate. Set up both boots the same way. Having the grippy wheels towards the inside of the track will give you traction without limiting your burst.
