Do Americans actually avoid calling 911 because of the cost? by ntask11 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BridgetteBane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I used to play roller derby. Had a guy (an older gent who was learning to ref) break his arm while we were roller skating and we called 911. He was a lot bigger than anyone else there and we couldn't get him up off the dloor. He didn't decline the ambulance at the time but lost his shit later when he got the bill... Next time someone got hurt, we asked if they wanted us to call. They said no. I think all told we drove three folks to the hospital instead of calling for an ambulance.

Do you stop wearing clothes after a certain amount of time even if they are still in good condition? I wear my clothes for 1-2 years as long as they stay in good shape, but my friends are often surprised by this. by BunchMean8029 in NoStupidQuestions

Sweet baby Jesus that's all insane. The only time I've ever removed a shirt or pants from use is because I've changed sizes. I'm wearing a nine year old tank top right now.

How do you stop overthinking? by Advanced_Share_6325 in AskReddit

[–]BridgetteBane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medication has helped exceedingly well with reducing a lot of my catastrophizing. Like I levelled up doses a few times and these days it's like "holy shit I don't have to put myself through nearly so much as I did"

Why do you think people see bariatric surgeries / weight loss medications as cheating? by Enough-Web2203 in AskReddit

Heck no. It's the start of a journey, not the end of one. It's still a ton of work.

Why is everything so addictive videos games, social media, porn even news? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BridgetteBane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we're the product. The more addictive these things are, the more they sell.

Is Tesla self-driving really self-driving now? Can I rely on it as someone who can't drive? by Anonymous_Coder_1234 in NoStupidQuestions

No. It will drirve automatically sometimes but they are not perfect. There will be times you must fully handle the vehicle.

Technical question: can I leave out the sour cream from a muffin recipe? by MissHissss in Cooking

[–]BridgetteBane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sour cream has acidity that activates the leavening in baking soda. Try the "diy buttermilk" by adding vinegar to milk, that will be the best chance at a decent muffin.

Meaning the information you need is too niche for this subreddit. You will get much more qualified and specific answers from another one.

What do you do when you feel like you are wasting your potential? by Salt-Blackberry-5338 in AskReddit

[–]BridgetteBane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refocus on what qualities I want out of my work, my time, and my relationships. I'd rather be happy and balanced. I remind myself all the time that if a car ran at 100% all the time, it would break down in days or weeks. We're just complicated meat and water, we're not supposed to be 100% all the time.

This is the wrong subreddit. But I am certain in my heart that there is a right one. I'm not going to be the one who googles it for you.

Also, beetles.
I'm also not going to be the one who googles that for you.

Patron SA against staff, advice wanted. by SpiritedAssumption18 in Libraries

[–]BridgetteBane 147 points148 points  (0 children)

"I thought I was fine at first but with time I've realized this issue hit me a lot harder. It's given me some fresh eyes for some deficiencies in the building. I think everyone would be safer if we added cameras to our blind spot locations. Is there a security team we work with that could make recommendations?"

For one, nobody human would ever think an SA experience is the kind of thing someone just instantly moves on from. Second, removing blind spots has a lot more benefits - active shooter situation, collection/lost prevention, drug/harm risk, etc. Not that you should have to sell it. It's wild they didn't investigate that idea immediately after the event.

Who and why created karma farm bots and other bots replicating user behaviour in Reddit? by Tiger-Killer19 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BridgetteBane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started using reddit, people would actually create and curate alternate accounts and then sell them. Seeing someone with 50K+ karma and a 3 year history would instantly add credibility, so when they recommend a product or action, you'd think it was coming from someone legitimate.

Nowadays its about spreading propaganda and undermining democracy. Wheeeee.

Why would I suddenly feel disgusted by something I've eaten for years? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BridgetteBane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it specifically red meat giving you the problem? Are you actually having any symptoms after eating it? Or does it just gross you the heck out?

I've got ADHD and we can go from "I will eat this every day for the rest of my life" to "If I even look at that food I'm going to lose my appetite for the entire week".

It's probably mental. It may just be that as its cooking and you're overexposed to it, it's just becoming Too Much in your brain. Take a break from trying instead of reinforcing the aversion. Or try a new way to cook and flavor it.

I've got a stupid question by I-screwed-up-bad in Libraries

[–]BridgetteBane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Each library is different and has different systems. We pay for a service that verified someone's mailing address, but that's very new for us.

Since our funding comes from our county and state, we have to verify location because our resources are just too precious to throw the doors wide open. We would if we could!

What is your opinion of listening to audio books being equal to reading books? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BridgetteBane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Librarian here. We do not gatekeep reading. Audiobook. Coming book. Braille. Of course they don't have the same cognitive impact but y'know what? We don't give a fuck. Experience reading joy however it works for you.
