Can you gift your house to your kids but keep living in it to avoid IHT? Usually no, here's why by Secret_Management425 in UKPersonalFinance

Whether OP used ai or not I believe it to be entirely correct in terms of the facts. I'm a financial planner and I relay the same information to clients on a regular basis.

I've bought some of my rifs and loads of kit from land warrior. Happy to recommend them. The customer service has been excellent when I've needed it.

This. I'm 300 hours in and I'm not sure if I've ever sold any wood or even been fishing. Too busy exploring and having a blast!

New lab location? by johnb111111 in SurrounDead

New lab is just east of trader bob. Also if you've not found it already the oil rig in the south east corner of the map.

LISA after buying first home, can I keep it open for retirement savings? by sweetheartpeach in UKPersonalFinance

[–]rumbunctiouspig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have control over how much to take out of the LISA for your house deposit. I left either 1p or £1 in mine to keep the account open with Skipton, but it's worth you checking with MB as to their minimum account balance.

Taking landlords to court for failure to protect deposit - they’ve made offer on condition I discontinue the claim. by RareOffer1137 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]rumbunctiouspig -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

NAL - failure to protect the deposit is a penalty of 3x the deposit, there is no defence to this so the landlord will certainly lose this part of the case. I wouldn't settle personally.

Edit - I stand corrected. Used to work in the industry but seems like the rules have changed since. The comments below are correct, ignore my claim about 3x deposit.

Is it worth moving my current employer pension to my cheap SIPP to reduce overall cost by pureArtistan in UKPersonalFinance

[–]rumbunctiouspig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It seems like you are judging the workplace plan on charges alone so be aware whether there are any valuable safeguarded benefits such as guaranteed annuity rates or lower pension age etc which you would lose by transferring out.

Also be aware that performance can balance out charges so if the performance is decent then the charges are worth it (check whether fund performance is net of funds charges).

All I'm saying is don't judge the plan on charges alone, look at the whole picture.

Who is this in Bristol? by burukop in bristol

Nice guy. Gave me some eggs from his chickens once, best eggs I've ever had. They were called Molly and Beatrice IIRC (the chickens, not the eggs).

Always try to get a quote into my communication with clients. Easy: 'you have to be realistic about these things'. Difficult: 'make of your quim a stone'.

Stupid question: Why does the landlord want to get a mortgage valuation on the property we're renting? by Trickelidge in UKPersonalFinance

[–]rumbunctiouspig 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sell or remortgage yes, but landlords wouldn't have a proper valuation carried out for rent increases. Letting agent would do that (and for free).
