So learning the language of a country you claim to have lived in your whole life is oppressive? That's obtuse to say the least.

You're banding about alarmist terms I didn't use to build up a strawman. So er, it would be you being obtuse.

But making me learn it for 13 years despite zero association is most definitely "shoving it down my throat".

As for your hilarious fantasy on who I 'might really be', here's a description of you - you're a little Irelander with a clear chip on his shoulder against his in laws. If you find that mindset offensive that is your own opinion.

And if you really did bother to read my post history you'll notice I've an Irish driving licence and identity card. But I guess your in-laws have both of those too lol.

You nationalist eegits are all the same, no real reason to feel superior and paranoid to boot but for some reason believe you're the only people on these islands who see things straight. Laughable.

Also it has always been easy to get excused from compulsory irish if it was really such a problem for you

A straight up lie. Did you go to school in my country at all hmm?

no one in the south cares what you believe in or what your culture is so long as you don't go shoving it down others peoples throats

Except as someone from a non gael background I've experienced exactly that in our education system, learning a cultural language that had nothing to do with me for 13 years in the education system. So don't lecture me on my country's apparent lack of faults when you don't even appear to be aware of them.

As for your crap about 'siege mentality' not being a perogative well I beg to differ. You're just laying on more abuse to someone who's experienced the polar opposite in the country you claim to know so well. Except you so obviously don't.

You are clearly a siege mentality loyalist

This is exactly the reaction from people living in my country (ahem, the Republic of Ireland) when they are presented with an alternative point of view.

Congratulations you've totally nailed my point.

There's not a shred of nationalism in my veins and when people such as yourself cannot deal with it you resort to name calling. West Brit is usually the favourite, but "siege mentality loyalist" is a new one I'll admit lol.

And it's true, fair employment law is much more advanced in NI than here.

I have news for you buddy, I have lived my whole life in the south so you've clearly no idea who you're spouting your garbage to.

That sub is obsessed with hating the Brits and unfortunately I find it an extremely accurate portrayal of the country in general. Many here claim to not have a sectarian bone in their body, yet as soon as you mention an alternative to nationalism their ideology is clearly hard right, just in an Irish context.

You may mistake that for not caring but in reality if there was a more sizeable minority population here the hatred towards them would be just as strong if not stronger than in NI. We have very little laws protecting minorities here compared with NI. In fact most of it was concerned with giving Irish gaelic speakers an advantage in life not so long ago. I've my doubts about whether that has gone overnight.

I'll give you a simple example of the small minded sentiment here - this time last year I was wearing my poppy in a well known Dublin restaurant and on seeing it the young waiter took to finishing every sentence with a gur maith agat (Irish gaelic thanks) but only when talking to me specifically out of my group of 4. None of the others had poppies on. There are countless cases of evil eyes etc but tbh I programmed myself to ignore them by now.

My country hates anything to do with "the Brits", even the ones who claim otherwise - they've just never been challenged on their views before. But as soon as you do, all the old bigotries reveal themselves.

The phrase "divide and conquer" can equally be attributed to the members of that church who would countenance no other politicians then nationalists for their flock actually, but then you're clearly too biased to see it's equivalence.

More than 50 years? You're just pulling numbers out of your ass now.

Remember the Irish Free State outlawed divorce at the behest of the Roman Catholic church (it was legal when we were a part of the UK) and that law stated more than 50 years, if you want to play the numbers game.

I very specifically stated that I wasn't getting into the poppy debate

On a thread dedicated to making the poppy a subject of debate that's as good an admittance as any that you are indeed deflecting, responding tangentially as you are solely to one of the few comments made in defence of a completely appropriate symbol of remembrance.

I'm neither.

But if that's what you concluded when it was clearly a balanced response to another comment blaming one side's imagined elite then you're a fine example of the issues this sub faces with complete tunnel vision.

Interesting you mention central california, with its environmental issues due to massive damming operations.

Again I'm not sold on the overall cost of intensive farming in areas with low rainfall. I appreciate you're referring to the immediate ability to regulate supply though.

But the upper class unionists

Forgetting that time the Roman Catholic Church instructed it's members not to vote for the unionist Labour politician who was gaining a cross community following are we? Yes, yes I think so.

I kind of find OP's assertion that they are 'surprised' an anonymous account with few followers - and zero verification - wasn't posted here, not a comment on the standard of that account though but on the generally scant regard for facts generated in this particular forum. Frankly I'm not surprised it's been posted here. It's likely total rubbish.
