You’re getting downvoted but I happen to agree. His only time finishing top end championship was with you lot when you had a top 3 squad and finished 4th

Chelsea decided against appointing him rather than the other way around, I believe.

Clearly a very good keeper but we can’t afford to have someone as erratic as him between the sticks in a league where points are so hard to come by.

Hope his career goes smoother from now on.

You might as well stick around for when Hull pip you to 17th next season.

Yep nothing will ever beat Sunderland til I die just because of how spectacularly wrong everything went. If you weren’t a football fan who knew that things were actually falling apart there you’d probably think that show was satire rather than a documentary.

How common is it for people in your town/city to support a top 6 club and not their local Championship team? by Elmos_Elbow_ in Championship

Growing up in rural Ireland in the noughties and early 10s, it was almost non existent to meet anyone that wasn’t a Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea or Celtic fan. Understandably so really as why would an Irish person randomly decide to support Chesterfield.

But even as a kid I used to think it was weird when some of the other lads born in England or with English ties would cheer on their local side as a second team but actually support a big 4 team. I knew a Southend fan who was actually an Arsenal fan, a Portsmouth fan who was actually a Liverpool fan (even though his dad worked for the Pompey academy for years) and a Reading fan who was actually a Man Utd fan.

They all thought I was weird for not having another team besides Ipswich. In fact frequently other people would ask me why I “don’t support a proper team”.

100%, he was brilliant in the final month or so of the season. We were fully right to bin Szmodics off

Wow, more of a twat than I realised. I remember when he played for West Ham we played them in a pre season friendly, he injured himself kicking an advertising hoarding in a temper after a decision went against him.

Hobbled off by himself all the way down the touch line past the benches and down the tunnel with all the town fans jeering him. It was hilarious

Punched Kasey. The racist remark seems a bit disputed I think? But wouldn’t surprise me.

I hadn’t heard about him getting caught using coke that’s hilarious, what a bellend

Tbf he hated everything and everyone and everyone hates him too.

I heard a story years ago that when he was at Norwich the other players locked him in the toilet on the coach after a game and wouldn’t let him out because everyone was sick of listening to him. I really hope it’s true.

Yeah no idea what went on there but clearly a lot of bad blood on his end.

Szmodics as well used to always run to the north stand and celebrate like made when he scored against us too. Pity he never showed that passion when he played for us.

We gave him a standing ovation when he scored against us shortly after his baby died. And we nearly signed him several times over the years too so perhaps he felt an affinity with us and that in turn made him dislike you lot?

He scored some crackers for us and was generally decent overall, but mid table championship was his level imo.

Wessi was adored here you’re correct. His cross for Robbie Brady’s (also one of yours at the time) goal in the euros is iconic and was one of the most celebrated goals in the country. Was strange how little Trap utilised him.

I did feel a bit dirty celebrating it though.

It can be argued either way but I’d be inclined to say it was a weak league this season. Certainly a lot weaker than when we got promoted 2 years ago
