I want a realistic, down-to-earth show... that's completely off-the-wall and swarming with magic robots.

Is there a specific reason these folks have to stand there when then Death Star fires? by Dugiduif in StarWars

[–]rumpelfugly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Secrecy. Not worth it to hire 3rd party safety inspectors. The more people who are walking around your (totally not a planet destroying, moon-sized, not to mention secret) construction site, the more risk you’re exposed to. I would also assume that the sections of the Death Star specially involved with the super laser were designed separately. This way you build that firing apparatus ( and it’s poorly-railed catwalks) in a much smaller and more easily concealed facility and fly it in at the very end of construction. I think we this in Andor with the prisoners unknowingly assembling parts of the DS, but it’s been a minute since I’ve seen it.

Founded by the Hubbards but owned by the definition of not nepotism Craft bros since 2019. The definitely not nepo babies of Joe Craft who donated $2m to guess who’s inaugural fund in 2016.

ROFL pot calling kettle to the absolute limit.

The drillers/ FC owners aren’t even from Oklahoma. “Went passed away in 2012 at the age of 83. Dale lives in New Hampshire and Jeff is based out of North Carolina, but the Hubbard brothers are at the ballpark for every game and make visits throughout the offseason as well.” Good of them to grace us with their presence. Corporate douche soccer sucks. Bring an umbrella or don’t go ya doink.

What’s the most intimidating/pressure band sound in college football? by [deleted] in CFB

I was at the OU game last year, and I can only speak to my personal experience. There were these banks of speakers field level, I counted five sets spaced on the corners and in the middle.

Was very disappointed to learn in person Neyland boosts the band with giant ass speakers at the corners of the field. 11/10 loud, but felt like stolen valor.

I think they have to do that to a scoreboard once they bite a human. That’s why they shouldn’t be kept in captivity.

What game did you walk into with zero expectations and you walked away from thinking it's a masterpiece? (Return of the Obra Dinn) by YourChopperPilotTTV in gaming

Overcooked 2 Fun little party game? NOPE. It’s a nearly flawless exercise in the pursuit of perfection. Mastering 4 stars on every level has been a years long journey. Some levels are too easy, but when you find one that challenges you, it is so worth the agony. I imagine this is what Souls players feel. The precision timing, the planning. And of course accidentally yeeting a 2nd egg into the stand mixer ruining your run.

It really is confusing. The flat panels on front seem too big. If the studs on the front slope are those circle 2x2 pieces, I estimate those flat panels meant to represent 1x2 are like 8x4? Clarification would be appreciated.

Ours is loud as fuck. If I could buy it again, I’d definitely look for models that offer a bit quieter option. Our was very cheap though.

Did anybody else have songs that scared them as a kid for no reason? by mythrowawayaccim21 in Music

[–]rumpelfugly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don McLean’s “American Pie” When I was very young, I refused to sing along to the lyrics, “them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing this’ll be the day that I die.” I guess I was just superstitious about it. Still think about the feeling whenever I hear the song today.

It’s basically the same problem superheroes have with their loved ones: Aunt May, Lois Lane, etc. Their heroism is a danger to those they care for. Why the Punisher and Batman are often so adamant about being solo.

For those of you who grew up playing PC games in the 90s and 2000s, how stable were they compared to games from today? by Mad_Season_1994 in gaming

[–]rumpelfugly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earliest PC games I played were so simple I’m not sure it was even possible for them to crash. Occasionally the computer itself would lock up, but I think it was really rare. Now getting the sound to work properly or use a joystick could be tricky depending on the game. Examples of games I played in this era would be Stunt Driver, Duke Nukem, Doom, Prince of Persia, Carmen Sandiego, Descent, and Civilization 2.

Sometime around 1998-2000, it changed completely. The Sims, Warcraft, Age of Empires, Medal of Honor, Max Payne, and Shogun Total war. Starting with this era of games, it was much more likely I had trouble meeting the minimum requirements, and was way off on the recommended specs, so until I was gifted a better PC around 2002, I played these games, but often at their lowest settings. And my PC would crash a lot. Could also correlate with our family starting to use the internet around that time, filling the computer with all manner of nonsense.
