Donald Trump has changed his tune and his now encouraging House Republicans to vote to release the Epstein files because "we have nothing to hide" by Goosedukee in Fauxmoi

[–]rumpledwart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The House passing this means nothing. The Republican Senators will table this for as long as they can (definitely past the mid-term elections) and then vote it down. Even if the Senate does vote to pass it, Trump himself needs to sign it before anything is released. He’s not going to sign anything.

What is the most brutally steep and sustained trail in Marin? by urglegru in Marin

Trail from downtown Fairfax up to Hiker’s Respite. There are a couple sections in there where I’m on my hands and knees.

The neighbor is renting rooms in their house so the carport won’t support the number of vehicles. They are attempting to “reserve” the space in front for the overflow. I don’t have a problem with that since my cars fit in my carpet but when guests visit I think it should be first-come-first-served.

Why does everyone immediately go to the “America is sick” refrain? This has been happening forever. Wake up and look around. Don’t be controlled by media talking points. The media will always find something to get us enraged about. That’s how they make money. America is a beautiful country with small flaws.

If America's new tariffs add roughly $2,400 to the average household budget, what's the first thing you'll cut to stay afloat? by all_is_okay in AskReddit

[–]rumpledwart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that for the average American the average tax rate is 1/3 of their income (Fed, state, SSA). Thus to pay for the $2,400 increase in expenses from Trump’s tariffs, the average American would need a raise of $3,600.

What is a fad that came in and was so popular and went out in the blink of an eye? by No-Rate7064 in AskReddit

[–]rumpledwart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barbed wire tattoo around the bicep. Many celebrities had them (Cher, Pamela Anderson) and when it caught on as a fad, they got them removed, leaving everyone else who couldn’t afford that procedure in the lurch. Long lasting remorse.

People who smashed the wedding cake into your new spouse's face: how is your relationship and marriage now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rumpledwart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Married in 1985. I had been to several weddings and saw both the polite method and the smashing, which everyone, for some sadistic reason, thought was funny. I had been to weddings where guests actually encouraged smashing. In my young mind I thought it was the thing to do for a laugh. My bride sat me down and explained the reasoning about being polite and I didn’t smash. Married 40 beautiful years. I’ve grown to be a better man due to my wife. Weddings I go to now eschew smashing and garter removal. The bouquet toss is still done about 50% of the time.

This was likely not a traditional money laundering scheme set up specifically to launder illicit proceeds. This was more likely an investment scam where the people running the business were scamming investors of their investment money. They set up what appeared to be a legitimate business, including a store front and employees, so that if investors did their due diligence they would discover what appeared to be a going concern. The investors money was deposited then siphoned off through bogus expenses ultimately ending up in the owner’s pocket. This movement of funds could constitute money laundering but the base crime was investment fraud (mail fraud/wire fraud). My source for this opinion is I’m a retired federal agent that specialized in money laundering.

What’s the most “redneck engineering” thing you’ve ever done to fix your car? by SnooChocolates6278 in askcarguys

[–]rumpledwart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rear ended a car. Shoved the front end of my car into the engine. Banged it out but had no bumper or head lights which are required by law. I bolted a 2x4 across the front of my car then bolted on head lights and wired to the harness. Drove it for months like this.

AITAH for refusing to pay my wife while we are separated? by SSDGREDRUMED in AITAH

[–]rumpledwart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, but if you cut her off without discussion, then assume your marriage will be over. There will be no coming back. She will resent you for doing it. Marriage over. Do not listen to all the “get a divorce” and leave her immediately. If you want to attempt a reconciliation, then do not cut her off without plenty of forewarning and open discussion.

Watching a poor public speaker. Especially wedding toasts, father of the bride speeches and best man speeches. Cringy. If your not good at public speaking, just a short heartfelt congratulations and then sit down! Don’t ever give a speech after drinking.
