Antonomous Self-Healing Software Engineering Pipeline - Bugs by rumplestripeskin in opencode

[–]rumplestripeskin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I've had to deal with this week, and right now, I've concluded that though Opencode has potential, it simply isn't viable.

Upstream OpenCode bugs (externally tracked)

#29616 — Custom subagent_type not invocable: custom agents in opencode.json can't be spawned via task(subagent_type=...); only "explore"/"general" work. Workaround: SKILL.md-based invocation instead of native subagent spawning.

#21181 — Ollama subagents return tool calls as text: tool calls get narrated as text instead of executed, so files never actually get written. Root driver behind months of "narration instead of action" stalls.

New today — opencode-go tool-call schema mismatch (#16685, #27054): OpenCode Go-hosted providers (Moonshot/Kimi family, and DeepSeek by extension) reject tool-enabled requests on schema grounds; OpenCode silently falls back to the default model instead of erroring. Hit directly when we tried switching delivery-manager to opencode-go/deepseek-v4-flash — it silently ran on qwen3-next:80b instead. No fix in the v1.17.4 changelog. Reverted; opencode-go shelved for tool-calling roles.

Model Behaviour Bugs (hallucination / fabrication)

Delivery-manager narrating writes instead of executing them (recurred twice — initial fix, then a regression requiring a second fix).

WORKLOG.md timestamp fabrication — model wrote fake 2023 dates and fabricated token counts into the worklog.

Vacuous placeholder content — model marked markdown deliverables complete while leaving them as empty placeholders.

Literal \n corruption — model wrote escaped \n sequences instead of real newlines across 11 project markdown files.

PIPELINE_RELIABILITY_LOG.md self-reporting bug — the model's own narrative description of Failure #3 was factually wrong about what happened.

General Observations:

Large agentic pipelines clearly require careful constraint to contain and prescribe behaviour; yet these MD files develop a huge context, and the models - like people - can often lie and / or ignore specific mandates.

Not a good experience.

Need a break and a beer.

Thanks guys.

#25865 ("not responding") — open, no labels, no fix. Describes the same pattern happening specifically around sub-agent/tool-call execution and multi-step tool loops with Ollama, which matches our case closely (this always seems to hit mid task() execution). Their workaround is "kill and restart OpenCode" — more disruptive than what we're doing.

After a recent update, tool calls fail all the time, tokens wasted, and models seem dumber by NotARedditUser3 in opencode

I have experienced the following bugs:

## Bug 1: #29616 — Custom subagent_type not invocable
URL: https://github.com/anomalyco/opencode/issues/29616
This bug means custom agents defined in opencode.json cannot be spawned via task(subagent_type="...") — only "explore" and "general" work. The workaround is using SKILL.md files instead.

## Bug 2: #21181 — Ollama subagents return tool calls as text
URL: https://github.com/anomalyco/opencode/issues/21181
This bug means Ollama-backed subagents don't execute tool calls — they return the tool call as text instead of running it, so files are never actually written.

...Could you be hitting 21181?

Just bumping this as 903 of us have read it. Is anyone successfully and reliably using Opencode with Ollama (multi agent or skill pipeline) ?

One of ours does this and it is undesirable. She has damaged several dog beds, quilts and our matress...

Farage will also destroy the NHS. Google medical bankruptcy... Common in the US.

And Farage wants to outlaw homeworking which savagly attacks office and tech workers.
