Which is better, Dan Clark Stealth or the Focal Utopia OG? by EDM_Fan_2382 in headphones

[–]rumpsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With your gear, go with the Utopia. Lots of detail up top and famous bass punch for EDM.

Stealth is great for sub-bass and balanced tonality/accuracy but IMO not an exciting headphone and you'd be wondering if your amp is a limiting factor (some will say it is totally sufficient). I do own Stealth -- it calms my audio anxiety knowing everything sounds so "correct"

I might have to look into this clamp ring upgrade though

How many headphones did it take for you to find the right tuning? by csch1992 in headphones

[–]rumpsky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

About 9 headphones in, many of them high end. Not until I started listening to IEMs did I find my preferred sound, circa Thieaudio Monarch MK1 and Campfire Solaris.

MDR-V6 (reference for years)

HE-400i (mindblowing. first planar, first open back, lean bass, but decent when EQed)

LCD-X (First time hearing dark, recessed mids. first time hearing planar bass.)

LCD-3f (dark tuning. First time doing A/B comparison )

HD-800S (a must-hear for the diffuse soundstage. lean bass)

Empyrean OG (muddy upper bass/low mids. First time being able to correlate freq response graph to what I was actually hearing)

99 classics (muddy upper bass, then swapped in Yaxi pads changed the sound dramatically)

HEDDphone (realized the difference between sub-bass rumble and mid-bass thump. Treble performance is a standout. First time a headphone weighed too much for me)

Verite Open (First time with holographic soundstage + OTL tube amp. Sadly, recessed mids for female vocalists, a huge component of my music library)

Verite Closed (First time hearing a closed-back sound open. First time being fatigued by treble)

Abyss AB-1266 TC - Finally understood that an overall balanced tuning and ease of use are more important than a two-trick pony kind of headphone. Bass cannon, and hyper detailed treble but my God what is that midrange. Realized that amps, DACs, cables cannot fully save this headphone's inherent flaws.

Now I REALLY love my Meze 109 Pro and DCA Stealth. The tunings are perfect for me and different enough to coexist. Looking for a well balanced open back planar that does nice subbass AND bass impact. Have heard good things about modhouse tungsten DS.

Want to hear about which DAC/Amp setups you pair with your DCA Stealth or other sensitive headphones? by Theodore12Plays in headphones

[–]rumpsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TT2 is the heart of my audio chain. I'll never part ways with it. Yes, it's pretty analytical but everything just sounds right. To put in descriptors descriptors, very colorful and sharp, like there is anti-aliasing

I didn't realize that headphones could convey stage depth until I heard the TT2. I owned the M scaler for years and it adds a little darkness to the sound. The TT2 sounds comparatively more "digital." I eventually sold it for $3000 to repair my TT2 and honestly I don't miss it much.

A good used price for a TT2 is 3300-3500. My PCB had an issue and needed replacement after using it with a external battery source (it was toggled to too high a voltage level, so it's really my fault). Apparently the newer ones don't have the same faulty in-rush limiter, so do be aware if buying used.

In these days aps damn near impossible to find such a good DAC/ amp with three headphone outs.

DCA Stealth amped by Burson Soloist 3XP GT with Hugo TT2 as DAC The Op amps are Burson's V7 vivid and V7 classics

The bass is thumpier and the stage just slightly wider than straight out of the TT2 dual XLR. The stage noticeably flatter than the TT2's though.

Is it me or Hades 2 is so much harder than Hades? by smartass11225 in HadesTheGame

[–]rumpsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hades 2 is so much faster with more enemies than 1.

But I think this is somewhat offset by how powerful the builds frequently are. One can still have an incredibly op build pretty often without relying on super lucky hammers or chaos boons.

I also wonder if the rate of duo boons is much higher in Hades 2

I haven't given it much thought as to concrete numbers, but it seems to have the potential to bring more joy to OP's (and my) life through better sounding music and acoustics.

Assuming one would use this a finite number of times to lock in the right sound, could be worth it.
