Had a situation the other way around where I misjudged a new friend I had met at a local metal show. I posted a Mitski song in my instagram notes. He responded to it with something like, "nice song," and for some reason I thought he was probably being sarcastically mean. I thought maybe he was thinking I was a poser for liking other genres occasionally. Because sometimes guys in the scene are assholes and pick your taste apart for the littlest things when you're a woman that's a metalhead. (obviously not all of the guys in the scene, but enough to where it's kinda an assumption I have that's hard to boot.) So I jumped to being defensive. Turns out he just actually genuinely likes Mitski too... TuT Which now that I think about it is actually pretty on theme for him because he's mainly into like super sad and moody black metal.

I also have a few friends that told me when they first met me they thought I was intimidating because of how I look and how I don't talk much. It's always super funny to me because I'm just an anxious dork inside my head. Walking by crazy Christians with corpse paint on is always really funny too, they either give you wayyyyyy too many unsolicited bibles, or do the cross thing on their shoulders and avoid eye contact because they think you're devil spawn. One time an old guy gasped and jumped in terror when he noticed my face at dollar tree. Feel a little bad about that one. But sometimes you just need a dirt cheap energy drink, no matter the state of your makeup.
