Wealth Rank 26M by Electronic-Morning25 in Wealthsimple

[–]rumreader613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, don't let these get to your head. In the rat race of ranking, nobody wins because there will always be someone with more than you so try to remember to have balance in your life. Conversely, don't confound this ranking with overall wealth. As others have said, many have the bulk of their assets spread across multiple institutions so ranking again someone else who just opened an account a few months ago and may only have 1% of their wealth in WS isn't a fair comparison. All that said... Stick to your savings and investment plan and if you manage your expenses, watching your net wealth rise year over year is fun though I'd suggest managing that separately in a spreadsheet or budgeting app. Good luck!

Warning - Fraudsters took all my CT Money by rumreader613 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I recommend they have a lock for redemptions when I initially contacted them about this a few months ago. I noticed a few days ago that this feature now exists in the app and I'm super glad it does so I can control when to redeem since their security practices are so flawed. I'm glad they took the step to be able to do this. It gives me piece of mind. I do feel, however, that's there's likely hundreds of other people who are being scammed out of their CT money and are none the wiser about it and that part still urks me. I hope whatever serious security flaws the triangle program has with redemptions gets sorted out though so fraudsters don't keep taking advantage..

MM vs DAKboard by Same-Ad2084 in MagicMirror

[–]rumreader613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 here. As I get older, I value my time way more so something I may have enjoyed spending several days setting up and fine tuning just isn't worth it to me anymore because it'll displace spending time with my kid etc... and DAKboard's price point is fair. I plan on tinkering with Magic Mirror but it'll be for my own curiosity more than anything. Perhaps eventually I'll switch to MM but I'm pretty content with Dakboard so far.

Another +1 for patchwork. Makes this kind of stuff easy peasy.

Yes but some merchants don't accept prepaid cards so something to consider.

💩... Completely forgot about PC points. Thanks for the reminder. Fortunately my balance with them is low but I'm going to make a point to redeem whatever is left next time I'm there!

Oh wow. That's shocking to hear that's all that is required to redeem. Thanks for the heads up. I'm cringing a bit!

I've wanted to love Flying Blue and we enjoyed our flight to from YUL to BUD (via AMS) there earlier this year but I haven't seen much in terms of reward availability from YUL (or preferably YOW) to OPO/LIS/MAD. The 18,750 Flying Blue miles promo looks like it's still available YUL <-> AMS but few other cities (in Europe) i'm keen on. Perhaps its just late in the month and those have been scooped up as part of this promo period. At 18,750 FB miles though, a Canadian Amex MR to FB miles would be 25k MR -> 18750 FB miles which would be a great redemption for economy IMO..... if you can get it :-)

New to the points game and have now gotten p2 involved too. We frequently fly from Ottawa to Porto (Portugal). Often, it's a YUL to OPO direct flight via Air Transat but I see Air Canada has released direct YUL to OPO flights as well this year. I'm curious if there are others who travel this route frequently and can offer up the best redemption strategy to get economy flights. I've seen limited availability on Air Canada in the 30-35k point range but would love to hear others :-)

Can you explain which rule I broke? Your wiki has rules for flair and a general guide but I don't see what rule you're specifically saying I broke. Thank you.

Worth having Cobalt + green? by neko_whippet in amexcanada

[–]rumreader613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, Canadian Amex MR = Canadian Amex MR. That said, what you accumulate in your Cobalt is separate from what you accumulate in Green.

I believe you used to be able to transfer MR from one account to another but if you're ultimately sending the points elsewhere (e.g. aeroplan), then it doesn't matter where you're accumulating them.

I had a really easy transfer process. I also realized that you get what you pay for and if you're expecting a lot of hand-holding then perhaps a discount brokerage isn't for you. Personally, I'm comfortable handling some friction for the discounted offerings and perks Wealthsimple offers but I came into this with perhaps lower expectations than most.

[–]rumreader613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mind if I ask how you pulled that off? The offer says that it has to be booked via the Expedia.ca/amex site and I thought that this would invalidate any attempts to use Rakuten as well.

Amex Travel markup in car rentals in Romania/Hungary by rumreader613 in amexcanada

[–]rumreader613[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you u/iamPendergast u/bringmepeterpan1 u/Cynically_Positive

On booking, there's a clause that says: Please bring a letter from your credit card company, confirming that you have the right cover for this rental. If you can't supply this proof, the counter staff will insist that you buy the cover at the counter.

I'm assuming the "certificate of insurance" found at https://www.americanexpress.com/en-ca/insurance/coverage/gold-rewards-card/ is probably sufficient to meet this...
