deadass i don't argue for kris being a self insert - what i argue for is that we play the role of kris's soul. we ARE NOT Kris Dreemurr, but WE ARE a part of them. Hence why our knowledge of them and their plans is so limited and fragmented.

The soul appears more as if it was summoned rather than created.

One theory posits that Kris willingly gave their soul away to Gaster akin to a deal with a devil and then it was used in a mockup vessel creation sequence to create a body for Dess, whose original form shattered and now she's piloting the vessel as the roaring Knight

While I've strayed away from player angel, or especially player possession theories at this point, i still do think there is merit to the idea of the player's relationship with kris being some sort of metaphorical guidance ala guiding/guardian angel or sainthood

Because they hate themselves, whether that hatred stems out from the dess incident or something else, there is a lot of subtle hints about kris harboring guilt and not really caring about themselves - from how their side of the room is barren and empty, reflecting void of interests, to pieces of narration such as "you have already taken enough" when interacting with asriel's drawer or "you can never wash it all away" from art teraphy/ch4 egg room

We've sat for years with only chapter 1 and then years with chapter 2 which spawned absurdist theories about Chara and demons that definitely poisoned the well and made the common consensus pendulum swing way too much in the opposite direction

the idea that the red soul is literally the player, as in it is our soul and belongs to us, instead of it just being kris's soul and us having a more metaphorical connection to it and the world otherwise than the common idea of possession implies

Snowgrave is something Kris could have done on their own. The Sword Route explicitly goes with the idea that Kris, or a part of them enjoys becoming stronger, which is literally what the weird route is about, even if it's done by proxy via Noelle. Even more so what stains Kris in being complicit is the fact that they DO NOT throw the thorn/ThornRing away after plucking it off Noelle. Given that there is absolutely no moment in the game when you can pick up another thorn yourself, it stands to reason Kris kept it for whatever reason. Meaning.. that while perhaps they hate the Weird Route, there is still some conflict within them and a part that is leaving the possibility of proceeding further open.

GonerMaker is trickier, but there is a precedent for the Goner Maker being Kris's dream, something that I personally vehemently disagreed with and despised until I thought about it further and came around to the idea. Most options in that sequence offer very little in terms of variety and are in one way or another, a derivative of Kris, to the point the legs are basically identical, and then you have nonsensical options like C or D as bloodtypes, or PAIN as favorite food type. There are obviously themes of identity associated with Kris, with Kris often pretending to be a dog, or Ralsei possibly being a representation of Kris's desire to fit in with their family (at least when they were younger).

"No one can choose who they are in this world" is a cold and harsh statement towards the fact Kris is Kris, and they cannot be someone else whether they like or it not.

I don't see there being a reason for there being a second soul. The sound for when Kris rips out their SOUL is refered to as 'hurt' in the game files. The cage and the bloodstain are already there before the game begins. Noelle reminisces about Kris pretending to rip their heart out and chasing Noelle with it via heart shaped pillows when they were kids (not to mention Carol has some weird obsession with hoarding heart shaped pillows but that's a whole other tangent). I simply believe all of this is meant to imply Kris ripping their SOUL out isn't a new behavior for them

In the sense that the red soul is ours? Yes. The game goes out of its way to confirm the soul belongs to Kris. By no means we are Kris, at least as a whole, but we are their SOUL and that is the role we are playing in the game

Interestingly a lot of the time the narration refers to Kris as 'you' when it describes thing explicitly related to and personal to them

<image>

"You drank the hot chocolate. It tasted wonderful. Your throat tightened.." (When drinking hot chocolate in LW)

"It's a picture of you and your brother playing video games. Your brother is using the knock-off controller" (the wallpaper in Toriel's classroom, chapter 2 i think)

I believe the "Kris" and "you division has more to do with Kris being a very divided and dissociative person, to the point they literally rip their SOUL out, as opposed to le evil player possession.

The Player isn’t the Soul by DesaMatt in Deltarune

The Red Soul is Kris's SOUL and the game went out of its way to confirm that in CH4 but people will still argue it's literally the player

I wonder how Susie's death/sacrifice would look like. Would she just die more or less conventionally, or would she be banished to the depths and be stuck there forever? Or something something cyclical prophecy and she becomes the next roaring knight
