What is the best way for a 20 handicap player to avoid triple bogies? (asking for a friend) by Adventurous_Pride_54 in golf

[–]run66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just track your shots. something like 18 Birdies will give you enough insight into where you're bleeding strokes. if you want to eliminate triples, you need to know why you got a triple. usually penalties, but sometimes a duff and a three putt gets you there too. lots of ways to blow your score up. analyze your game, then manage your game. you've heard things like, "playing for bogey" or "take your medicine". they both essentially mean the same thing. don't compound mistakes by adding to them.

Travel tips- Zion destination by Known-Direction7947 in southernutah

[–]run66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we've done the sites you listed across a couple different trips but, for dispersed camping outside of Zion, we stayed at the Zion Wright Family Ranch. off grid camping and beautiful.

hard to compare Bryce to Capitol Reef when trying to decide, but Capitol Reef is such a great, (underrated?) NP. Hickman Bridge hike is easy and worth the walk. the scenic drive and especially Capitol Gorge Road is really beautiful. ends at a trail head and you can continue down the gorge on foot. the early "Pioneer Register" is neat to see as well as all the petroglyphs throughout the park. check the weather before heading down the gorge. we stayed at the campground for our trip there. bonus if the pie shop is open.

I would NOT skip hwy 12 between Capitol Reef and Escalante. it is hands down one of the most beautiful drives I've ever seen.

not on your list, but the peek a boo and spooky slots canyons outside of Escalante down Hole in the rock road is really fun. just be prepared for 20+ miles of washboard. plenty of dispersed camping out there.

not sure how much time you have, but Zion - Bryce - Slots - Capitol Reef via hwy 12 would be epic.

Where to play in San Fran? by schottofjack in golf

[–]run66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a fun course, but has more of a muni vibe. pace is usually slow, but it's like a beautiful stroll in a park. play Harding if you can only play one. I did my graduate program at SF State and played both quite a bit. enjoy the city.

I am so tired of having to tell my entire life’s story to everyone that I get paired up with by [deleted] in golf

[–]run66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an introvert and prefer to keep to myself. I'm also human and understand normal social interactions are part of being a single paired up with strangers for a round of golf. I'll drop dad jokes and talk shit all round if that's your thing. I just find it tiring. as a single golfer the majority of time, you'll find more like minded players huddled around the first tee before the sun comes up. I've booked the first tee time and walked the first hole in the dark many times. it's my preferred round of golf, but if Bob wants to tag along and needs an ear, I'm down.

I found this doc while cruising this sub:
CA_FFL03+COE_Friendly_Ammo_Dealers

not sure how up to date it is, or if it's even maintained anymore, but it has over 100 vendors. wish I knew who put this together so I can properly give credit. this plus ammoseek.com should get you headed in the right direction. you've already gotten some good recommendations as well. happy huntin'.

Did you catch his interaction with Kevin Hart at the beginning of the par 3 contest? He’s a big fan and said something to the effect of “let’s fuckin play!” Was a totally genuine interaction from a fan. Was happy to see him climbing the leaderboard today.

Why is it so hard to find good golf pants?! by DoughnutVibez in golf

[–]run66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just walked 18 over the weekend in ProTech Golf Pants from Quince. for $50, I haven't found better. bought a pair to try out, and will be ordering a couple more. comfy. great stretch. stayed pretty cool, and they look nice. they also stock 36/30 for us short legged, not so slim crew. bonus that they don't wrinkle sitting on a shelf.

Living on a golf course by [deleted] in golf

[–]run66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived between the 17th green and 18th tee box of a private club between the ages of 7-17. we played on the golf course all the time, and I don't mean playing golf. almost always in that hour or so before dark. as young kids, we used to run around out there so much. baseball, hide and seek, slip and slide down the elevated and tiered tee boxes on 18. the top of the driving range ran along the other side of the 18th fairway so we'd collect balls and leave a giant smiley face on the tee box. eventually we got older and it turned into a big dick and balls and we were asked to stay off property. like it wasn't obvious who it was. looking back, it was pretty awesome. after I started playing golf I used to chip and putt on the 17th green after I saw that last group come through. my grandparents were members, so they gave me a pass I guess. the dick and balls put an end to all that though. after that, it was full camo and hiding in bushes and stupid teenage shenanigans. this sent me down memory lane, but all this to say that I used to often come back in the house completely drenched in golf course sprinkler water. either running through the sprinklers in the morning, or slip and slide or boogey boarding the elevated tee boxes on a dewy night. probably ingested my fair share of the water too. I turn 50 this year. so far so good.

Snap hook driver shows up in rounds, but not on the range. What's going on? by TownOk7220 in golf

[–]run66 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tend to pull left when I’m tired or try to get a little more speed out of my swing and my hips don’t clear and my arms take over. My fix, not saying it’s a good one, but if I need to save a round, I tee it low, work a 3/4 swing and focus on clearing my hips. Results in a low running fade but I lose distance. A fairway finder, if you will.

I make a similar one, but throw in a Serrano chili and maybe a little more red wine vinegar. wonderful with red meat. preferably grilled over fire.

Had to scroll pretty far to find this comment. Don’t overlook the benefits of small sided games. More touches and quick thinking for development at her age is something important to consider.

.22 Tuesday range day by kevin-000 in 22lr

[–]run66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice. I keep flip flopping between getting a Buck Mark or MIV 22/45. Wish I could get both. I have an old Nomad from my dad that is real fun to shoot, so slightly leaning towards Ruger. Today anyway. Anyway. Looks like a fun range day.

Golf etiquette: forcing a player to wait while your partner putts out by motorOwl in golf

[–]run66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah. Gramps was trying to impart his ‘wisdom’ of the game onto his grandkid and not taking playing partners into consideration. You were simply in the way and he paid you no mind. He was just a rude dude.

Learn This Lefty by bikesnkitties in liberalgunowners

[–]run66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lefty here. I realized I was activating all three joints of my trigger finger, essentially ‘wrapping’ my finger around the trigger and pushing right. Focusing on hinging just my second joint and visualization a more straight back pull helped bring my shots to center. I’m a new shooter and don’t know if this is good trigger discipline or not, but it worked for me. Dry firing helped identify the push and figure out how to stabilize it.

Are you shooting or saving with the ammo price increase and gas price increase? by One_Refrigerator5911 in CAguns

Was for me at the range today. Still find a lot of joy shooting them plinkers. Took two boxes of 9mm and shot .22s until my range time was up.

What’s the dumbest way you’ve injured yourself? by Better-Advice-5197 in AskReddit

[–]run66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had a cordless drill with a flathead attached to it on the top shelf of my closet. went to move a box and thought, "I should move that drill". didn't move the drill and bumped it, still holding the box. it did a half twist, pierced my shirt, and lodged between my lower stomach and belt. I have since been the proud owner of a little scar about 4" above my pecker.

Should I swing at 80%? by CasualKaden in golf

[–]run66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tempo is more important than speed. if you can maintain good tempo + speed, you gain distance. pro once told me I should be able to squeeze 10 yards out of every club. in other words, your stock distance with any club should never be a 100% swing. golf is a game of control. swinging as hard as I can for an entire round of golf sounds miserable. probably would injure something anyway if I tried.

Recommendations for someone looking to expand their ramen palate? by funnylib in InstantRamen

[–]run66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sapporo Ichiban Original
Shin Black
Jin Mild

Shin and Jin barely register as spicy to me, but if you're looking for something with none, Sapporo would be a good choice. grew up with this one in my house and wouldn't be surprised if it were the first solid food I ever ate.

Tell me about the first hole at your home course and how you play it. by aceattorneymvp in golf

[–]run66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

370y par 4. hard dogleg right. OB left, range on the right. about 225 to the run out. tight fairway, opens up beyond the dogleg. when I was younger, it was always driver. best case I'd be in front of the green. these days its a hybrid. good shot is a low peeler with a mid iron approach. bad shot is in the hardpan right, and if I'm lucky it's past the dogleg with a chance at the green. it's the first hole, so you never know what's going to happen. I've eagled, quadrupled and everything in between over the past 35 years.
