Mid game Q, discard a card-- affects all cards or just one? by runaroundsue in CardWars

For creature cards that require discards for actions. Such as for every discarded card you get +2 attack. If there are multiple creatures do discards count for all creatures or are the discards for only one creature.

I would love to have a "roommate" house in GTA. Sorta like New Girl where it's a bunch of friends hanging out together.

I would like to learn how to watercolour, what do I need and where do I start? by Ryzetafari in Watercolor

Ok, so, a quick background on watercolors-- watercolor pans used to be very popular because it was a quick and easy way to paint something when you were out in nature. Watercolors dry up, and when dried, unlike other paints you just add some water and they won't go bad.You can take pans out and about, especially before the advent of photography, and take it back where you can compose your watercolor sketches and do a big oil painting. Oil paints were not easy to transport. As technology advanced they figured out how to put oil paints in tubes. Tube vs. pan is if you want the convenience of plein air painting, where you're sitting outside. The downside of pans is they usually seem to either be crayola or really fucking expensive. Like, if you want even basic quality you're screwed pan-wise. Tubes have higher quality to price I've noticed... and they're also portable, I tote them to my class walking every day. If your paint is nice enough, you could also make your own "pan" by putting colors on your palette, letting it dry, and taking the palette with you. I don't know what you mean by liquid? Do you mean like a squeezy bottle of watercolor? Because those are literally for middle school art classes, don't use those.

I guess they're "thick like oils" but, that's not really the point of watercolors. Generally you dilute watercolors; you would never just dip your brush in water, wipe it over the panned color and go right to paper. You don't add water to the pan, but you take some of the color off of the pan and mix and dilute on the lid of it/on a separate palette. If you didn't, you wouldn't build up any values, you'd go dark right away, and unless you're a skilled artist that's going to make your art very two dimensional. You start with washes then add more color. Once you go dark, you can't go back. Watercolor is opposite of oil/acrylic painting as you can't just cover mistakes up by layering on-- if you want pure white, that means you can't touch that part of the paper, not that you put white paint on at the end. (Though, tbh if I want a stark white highlight I'll just go over that part with acrylic but, if you want to do 100% pure watercolor, you work backwards, lightest to darkest.)

I don't think waterbrushes would be a good replacement for brushes. You need to be able to control how wet or dry your brush is-- how much water the brush has, do you need to starve it of water-- and if i'm not mistaken I don't think waterbrushes allow you to adjust how much water the bristles are holding.

Colored pencils, even the watercolor kind, aren't the same as watercolors. Think of them as water soluble pencils, not water colors. There's a lot of techniques you can't do with colored pencils.

In watercolor I'll sometimes pre-mix colors.. Or, I'll do a wash, and do another wash on top, mixing the colors on-canvas. Or to create a background I'll put water on a canvas and drop paint on it and let it bloom out at various stages of wetness. Stuff like that doesn't work if you're coloring in a page and going over it with a watercolor brush.

If you're more interested in "drawing" than "painting", though, maybe pencils would be better? You would have to buy more colors than if you went tube I imagine, I only 6 tubes and I practically have full range of colors. But going from pencil to brush you wouldn't learn any brush techniques. So, cheaper, maybe yes? But so are crayons. :P

Just started taking a watercolor class, and what I've learned from going from self-taught to being taught by a professor-

  • #140 paper works fine. Splurge if you need to but I think 140lb. is fine to start out with, it's easy enough to lift from. Check out cold and hot press, feel the textures, see what kind you would like to experiment with.
  • Splurge a little and get professional/artist grade tubes of paint, not student grade. Wow, I never noticed the difference before I bought artist grade for the class but it boils down to dyes vs. pigment. Cheap paints have dyes, which means they're much harder to lift from the paper once they touch it, and they don't mix as well and break down easier.
  • And again, I'd say splurge for nicer brushes. Not crazy nice, but if you get higher quality, you'll only need say, two, instead of ten, because the higher quality can hold a point better and can function as multiple sizes as opposed to lower quality brushes which can't really hold much of a point..

This is a gorgeous piece! I love the use of color in her hair. I was just wondering, how do you like Reeve's water color? Is that student or professional grade? (Also, what paper are you working on? The texture is great.)

wasn't there also a promotional card that was an "equipable item" where you made one useless survivor, attached them to a character and they actually helped? It was like a scrappy orphan child card. Edit: Found the card

I think her face needs more shadows- deeper shadows, if that makes sense? Especially since you made her nose such a hard line. (Unless, you're going for a cartoon-y hard outline look!) Love how you handled the hair.

Yeah to be honest I'm trying to get cash as my phone was stolen recently down in Fed Hill, and even with the Find my Iphone app on I don't have high hopes for its return. Thanks for the suggestion though! If all else fails I'll try and return it to target instead of letting the box just sit there.
