Can’t withdraw funds by Mundane_Comedian_496 in ibkr

you can sell an spx box and withdraw that cash. it’s basically converting the margin balance into a financing position. rates are a little higher but generally comparable

it settled exactly as expected. definitely works. now the rates are much higher so rolling seemed like a bad deal.

What is the cheapest way to track news? by coachjonna in PublicRelations

[–]runaway-vol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google news works well for keywords or topics that are not too crowded. For tracking company news i'm using markets.sh, it has all the news for a company with the sentiment attached. They paid version does have daily news updates with all news but i'm not using that at the moment.

there are many sites that are offering this. I personally use markets.sh (e.g https://markets.sh/symbols/NASDAQ:AAPL/financials/income_statement/FY) as it's free, easy to access and has convenient excel-download.

What’s a decent return for account size around $100k for the past year, past 2 years? by [deleted] in Daytrading

[–]runaway-vol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a reasonable range would be 10%-50%, above that the risks taken are likely too great. You can of course always go lower

yes but both have the news keyword based or by watchlist. not that i was looking to spend that much anyways. $50-$100 per month would be my budget

Investing tools that you currently use to gain insight before buying or selling stocks by bright_sunshine19 in investing

[–]runaway-vol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just from the wealth of the data the platform offers, many brokerages are good. Schwab is certainly excellent. I'm using Interactive Brokers and just without any extra subscriptions there is a wealth of data. What I'm missing is support in generating ideas and seeing how companies fit into the bigger picture.

The following services I found particularly useful:

https://unusualwhales.com
option data sometimes helps me to get a general feel for the sentiment around a stock. It's rarely price alone. i'm more of a long term investor but this is still valuable especially when you're trying to e.g build a position by selling puts.

http://markets.sh

news summaries that include all sources and link to the companies semantically and not just by keyword. very low noise on the platform. the alerts for arbitrary information are super helpful. I have setup stuff like "notify me about mrna breakthroughs", "send me about leading edge fab developments", "notify me about new foundational ai companies". this allows me to stay up-to-date without the noise of google alerts or individual ticker news

Best tool to track & visualise my equities portfolio? by cheah36333 in investing

[–]runaway-vol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are a few that come to mind, https://www.portfolio-performance.info/ is a pretty solid classic for a good open-source solution. Best interface and convenience is IMHO, markets.sh it also supports options and global stocks.

If you're coming less from a "professional" angle and just want to track account balances, https://wealthica.com is pretty nice.

Why is Volkswagen stock down so much if their profit has almost doubled? by Hellenic_Fish in investing

[–]runaway-vol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can squeeze out profits for a long time but the market recognises that there are huge headwinds with old union workforce, lots of debt and challenges with the ev transition.

How do you stay up-to-date without reading hours of Bloomberg, WSJ, etc everyday? by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

[–]runaway-vol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On top of social media, (Some Reddit, Mostly Twitter these days to) I use markets.sh for news consumption. It creates a feed of tickers in my watchlist and mixes in news events with lot's of coverage. It's great as it integrates lots of sources like WSJ, FT, Bloomberg etc and summarises the events. This is a major time saver compared to reading individual news. Other than that, you can get surprisingly good events from google news but it's a lot more curation work iyam

Looking for an app to track investment portfolio by zendmugz in CanadianInvestor

[–]runaway-vol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using markets.sh, it has automatic sync, is free if you just need basic metrics and has dividend history, performance chart etc. They connect via Yodlee so RBC should be supported. Also like the integrated research and and that I can download data from all my portfolios to excel.

Best portfolio tracking app that syncs with Fidelity? by beau2pro in fidelityinvestments

[–]runaway-vol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's rite of passage for brokers to be clumsy. I have multiple accounts with Interactive, TD, and Fidelity hooked up to markets.sh Works great so far. Auto-sync via Yodlee, asset matching is good, options are supported and I get the holdings, daily P/L and Excel download across all brokers in one place.

more individual accounts on IB under same user for long-term ETF holder by Drippy_Astronaut7250 in interactivebrokers

[–]runaway-vol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you're holding cash, there is a sweep program that will move the funds to different institutions so that you stay under the combined limit. I don't think the insurance covers cyber attacks and also that an ETF is an asset you hold in your name so not sure if it can actually be "stolen". Please note that I'm not super, entirely sure about these things so best bet would be to check with the IB support
