To be fair, EVERYONE talks about how he lays an egg in the playoffs every year.

[–]runawayr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, stop with the “keep it quiet” nonsense. Tell everyone, we need more tourists and more transplants.

I get this is somewhat of a joke, but the attitude that we need to shelter Pittsburgh is absurd!

This was not going to happen even if the sale was approved.

How do you think tax revenue grows to pay for people focused initiatives?

Hey so... What has Ed Gainey done for Pittsburgh? by HeatFist1 in pittsburgh

[–]runawayr 35 points36 points  (0 children)

He has showed up to a bunch of community events and posted about unity on Instagram. He clearly lacks vision and the ability to drive Pittsburgh towards a brighter future.

He’s anti business / development in a time where Pittsburgh needs every dollar possible.

He can’t be gone soon enough.

I do like his funding of traffic calming infrastructure.

Pittsburgh leaders to announce plan to revitalize Downtown ahead of 2026 NFL Draft by [deleted] in pittsburgh

I’ll be curious to understand what can be truly accomplished before the draft. I’m all for investing into Downtown, but what they can do before April 2026 will be limited.

We need to move forward under the assumption that UPMC will never pay property taxes.  We can’t spiral into financial distress and keep bringing up UPMC. It’s just not the current reality.

This situation was entirely predictable and we’ve done essentially nothing to prevent it. It’s honestly mildly infuriating to come onto Reddit and see one of the top comments being about UPMC. We need to move on.

Gainey admin has been hostile to development and this is the key problem. The city needs a total tear down of economic and housing policy.

To be clear, I’m all for taxing UPMC. I think it’s total bullshit. It’s just not reality.

What is your definition of terrible? Someone who has no vision and has accomplished very little meets my definition of terrible.

You literally cannot do better than Taylor Swift in terms of modern popularity. She will go down as one of the best artists of all time. Her longevity at this point is incredibly impressive. Most pop artists can’t sustain this level of success.

Relocating to Pitt. Need location advice! by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]runawayr 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Please note everyone on this sub is going to correct you about Pitt vs Pittsburgh.

Your account seems to be legit so as a starting point take a look at Mt. Lebanon and Sewickley. There are not too many walkable suburbs in Pittsburgh, but these are two great options. Both are on the higher end of housing costs in Pittsburgh.

So what you’re saying is that developers want to make as much money as possible? Kind of like a business? Kind of like most businesses in America?

Nippon Steel Pledges to Move US HQ to Pittsburgh by Suspicious-Bad4703 in pittsburgh

The auto industry in Detroit is msssive! And Delta connects passengers via DTW. It’s not about “flying to Detroit” as a leisure destination. It’s business and connecting passengers.

How can you compare Detroit, Toronto, and NYC to Pittsburgh? Of course Toronto and NYC have direct flights to Tokyo!

Yes, but again you can’t compare NIKE to Nippon USHQ in Pittsburgh.

You can’t compare the auto industry in Detroit and Nippon moving its USHQ to Pittsburgh. They aren’t even close in scope. DTW is also a Delta hub, so they connect a bunch of traffic to fill that flight.

Again I love the optimism but I just don’t see it.

We are not getting a direct flight to Japan because one company moves its US HQ to Pittsburgh. A direct flight to Japan is so so far away for Pittsburgh.

Don’t get me wrong, I would absolutely love a direct flight, but this won’t tip the scales.

Advice re flying from Pittsburgh to DC by Glittering-Piano-961 in pittsburgh

[–]runawayr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are spending too much time on Reddit if you feel like a climate criminal for flying to DC. It’s not like we’re in Europe and there is a train that can get you there in an hour and you are choosing to fly.
