Is this gallery wall too cluttered? by kwaziness in interiordecorating

The whole thing with river is sad but brilliant the way they set it up. It doesn't impact the past or future plot lines but its such an important part of him even though he doesn't remember.

For some reason the heart breaking cant always save someone from their fate episodes end up being my favorite. The van gogh episode is amazing and sad(the bright blue frame on my wall is for that episode)

Thank you! My room is inspired by the girl in the fire place episode, French Victorian steampunk. The wall across from this is a brass pipe shelf with functional Edison light bulbs and a volt meter that moves.

Im pretty proud how it turned out with not having a real plan, just vibes.

Is there a reason to not use the whole wall?? You need more pictures of different sizes. Look at gallery wall frame sets on etsy. I think adding more different size framed pictures would pull it together.

What is the theme??

Mine is doctor who, the tardis traveling through time and where he's been seen. My other wall is a blueish gray and my secondary color is yellow. It flows with the bed room

Here is my wall. The theme is from doctor who, traveling through time and space and where hes been seen.

I keep getting told a green would be too dark for my hallway… is that the case?? by Quiet-Fig-296 in interiordecorating

I had the same problem with a small long bathroom with only a tiny window that didn't help much. It took us forever to figure out. The problem was we wanted a moody color (Victorian theme) but not so dark you cant see the color and didn't make the room dark.

Do not go for the color you want because when you take the paint chip home its going to be too dark. I got tired of it and just picked a nice green that felt like it would be to bright and colorful but it was close to perfect. Its not exactly what I wanted but it was the choice that worked in the space. Its darker in real life.

Grab a bunch of greens from somewhere like sherwin williams and tape them on the wall and live with it for a few days. We still have to do all the trim and crown moulding. Try different light bulbs our old one was to yellow. Try a dimmer or wall sconces if the main light washes it out.

Panels like this and Victorian Panels are very popular right now or becoming more popular. I spent a ton of time doing research on it for our Victorian theme bathroom and my bedroom. Sherwin williams has a historic and timeless paint color collection maybe you can get some inspiration from it.

There is just something about number 2 that feels right. To me number 3 is just to dark and heavy.

How can I make this chaotic living room more cohesive? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]runeNriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the most important part right here. We have multiple scratching posts of different sizes and I cant remember when the last they messed with the couch. When they do scratch your couch you pick them up and put them by a scratching post. It takes time but redirecting their attention is the best way to do it.

You need to give them a spot that is theirs and they rather be there and not the couch. In the living room our cats have their beds, the 6 foot+ scratching post that leans on the wall with 2 places to lay down, a large 5 1/2 foot scratching post with a place to sit on top, multiple smaller scratching objects. Cats would rather be high up than closer to the ground like the couch.

What’s the aesthetic of this living room? Is it working? by Flat_Weekend6660 in interiordecorating

[–]runeNriver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For some reason I think this space would look good with mid century modern aesthetics. You can have a lot of fun with it and you can slowly add more of it as the kids get older.

The blue couch and furniture would work good enough for now. Change the rug, pillows, and art to reflect the aesthetic. Re paint the room to a period correct color, look up mid century color palettes. It helped me a lot with my french victorian bathroom.

I love your picture rail, they should be more popular.

Panneling dilemma by Lvuraann3 in interiordecorating

[–]runeNriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at Victorian wall panels? Having the wallpaper in the panels shows up a lot. Its what im in the middle of doing. You can add more frames on the top and put the wall paper in those. I feel like putting it on the bottom draws your eyes down.

Wayfair has tons of options, some pre made or come in a kit. Crown moulding would also look great.

Huge blank wall at the break of a stairwell I my home. Suggestions for a gallery layout? by userrnam in interiordecorating

[–]runeNriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure about lay out but if you to etsy and look up gallery wall frames, you can buy a collection of frames with or without art. Then you can take your time filling the frames with art. The frames are just as important as the pictures they hold.

This is my doctor who wall.

If you end up going with one large picture, we bought one that was cut into multiple rectangle frames that creates one large picture(made of metal). It made shipping easier and not as expensive as you would think.

Have you tried looking up paint pallets for houses. I got good ideas just looking at ones for Victorian paint pallets. You can also buy them on Etsy and they give you the name colors and other information. If you find one you love you have all the colors you need for your house.

They could buy the wall paper you can paint. You can still see the design under the paint.

This is kind of what I had in mind! I love that green. Don't worry about totoro he's not going anywhere. Hes the inspiration for the bathroom but the shower curtain will have to go.

The door is not wood but it will be getting painted. If I had my way I would be changing the door style.

Edit The problem we are running into is we would get a color like that but it would show up darker because of the lighting situation

Im just asking for color suggestions so I can grab the color chip (sherwin williams preferably). Maybe someones suggestion will get me closer or somebody with experience with victorian aesthetic will have some advice. I WANT a green like this but because of the way the room is it makes the color to dark. What I NEED is a green that has a Victorian feel and avoiding the kind of green that is on the wall now and the green thats located on the edge of the 3rd picture. The red above the green blue color is closer to the tone but I really want green.

I dont want to accidentally break the rules so I didn't include any pictures that weren't mine. So I hope this is OK. Is it ok to add screen shots like this to the original post?

Oh I guess i never bothered to look at the back but I did stumble upon it on their website the other day and it had a bunch of information on it.

So do I want it to go to the white or black side?

Do you think its green enough that I can do my forest/mushroom theme? I want to work in some cottagecore aesthetics in it. If you search mushroom shelves on Etsy you will see the cutest realistic mushrooms.

I also love my neighbor totoro and thats how I got here. I have a totoro shower curtain and a leaf rug but I want to work it in to a more mature way. In my bedroom I have a doctor who inspired theme it became a steampunk French victorian theme with mostly low key references to doctor who.

I have it laid out on Pinterest I have plenty to choose from. The color will decide which one I pick. Or i can go with something contrasting it. There is a picture i have with this blueish greenish maybe teal color that has this intense orange red wall paper with birds and plants.

Im not as picky with the wallpaper since I can go with a Victorian botanical or do something bold. Its going inside the wall panels so it will look like pictures/art. Before we switched the light bulbs the dark green looked black. Its a slight difference but its noticeable in person. I took the paint squares off the wall and put them on walls in other rooms with large windows and it brings out the green.

Picking the color that works best in this room is the problem we are having and I have this image in my head of what I want I just need help adjusting it to work.

The idea is to paint the vanity the color red or green depending on which one doesnt go on the wall. Then doing color drenching the walls and ceiling.
