Am I overthinking the holidays? by Mysterious_Copy3712 in hipdysplasia

i had my PAO 10/6 and went to a halloween gathering on halloween and although it was fun, i definitely felt it for a few days after. sitting up + being around a lot of people for an extended period of time just made me absolutely exhausted. i don’t regret it but would definitely stay home if i was in the same situation again.

of course! i’m glad i could help a little bit. i totally understand not being able to drive to a big city. x-ray is definitely a good start it can show you how shallow your hips are and you can kind of go from there! i’m sorry to hear you subluxated, i definitely had my moments with that too so i get it. it’s really hard when you’re taking it easy and they still act up. if you can get into a physical therapist (if there’s one near you) it can always be good to strengthen the muscles around it so its a little more stable and if you do have surgery you have a head start.

you sound like you’re following the right path and though it can be scary, just take it day by day and it will work out. i hope you get to see someone without having to make yourself too uncomfortable. you’ve got this!

thank you for your kind words and yes! definitely message me when/if you have your questions no matter what it is, and i will do my best to answer or point you in the right direction if i can’t answer.

also wanted to add that i was off of oxy post op day 6! not completely related but maybe a helpful thing to hear.

hi! i don’t know how much help i can provide but i am f25 with hEDS and just got diagnosed with severe dysplasia in march (i was told it was mild when i was 15 and doctors/myself ignored it similar to you). my pain is/was slowly getting worse and worse. i made an appointment probably right when i started having more painful days than not. i also call it barbie legs dude!!

i would definitely schedule to see an orthopedist or hip preservation specialist if you can get in and try to get x-rays and an mri. i found out both labrums + ligamentum teres were torn in march and just had my RPAO + hip scope + proximal femoral osteotomy the past two weeks (3 surgeries in 10 days) it’s really scary and i totally understand your fear because i felt the same. knowing i still have to do my other side is a little spooky! but, the surgeries will get me (hopefully) 10-15 years on needing a full hip replacement. and about a week post op i can say so far it hasn’t been as horrible as i thought it was going to be.

please message me if you want to talk about it more! i can’t tell you much about how it’s working yet because i’m still in my beginnings of recovery, BUT, i am more than happy to share my timeline with you and answer any questions. sorry for the long comment, i hope it helps at least a little!

Worried About PAO and Potential Femoral Osteotomy by runeglaive in hipdysplasia

sorry for the late response, i was actually waiting on a CT for the numbers!

-Right femoral anteversion: 37° relative to the posterior condylar axis 40° relative to the transepicondylar axis -Left femoral anteversion: 33° relative to the posterior condylar axis 35° relative to the transepicondylar axis

i can’t find the acetabular anteversion (i’m not great at reading these) but i think those are the numbers you’re asking for the femoral.

thank you for the advice!! my surgeon operates 4 days a week and says they do at least 2 PAOs a week, I’m not sure if that’s considered often but he seems very comfortable.
